Yeah this new saber ain't doing it for me. It's a bit to "medival" looking.

It looks like something the Black Knight should be wielding.

HEY! >:( I like Lightsabre Zweihanders.

Next thing we'll see is a lighstaber the size of a buster sword.

I present to you, the Lightclub

I'm not a huge fan of the hilt-sabers. I figure if you want to do something like that, then you should just build a crossguard out of a cortosis alloy (or maybe mandalorian iron). If you've got the resources to do a super fancy miniaturized double-bladed saber for a crossguard, then you can probably get enough exotic metal to armor up a hilt that won't kill you or cut your hands off while still being just fine at blocking lightsabers.

Not a fan of it. Will try to hold judgement to see if it will be specific to a character or if it goes across the board.

Lightsaber tonfa's. This looks cool and practical but also kinda dangerous holding them so close to your body.

There are about twenty threads complaining about this new light saber, about as many as there are complaining about certain ships or threads complaining about threads about these ships.

Are you saying we got something better to do? :)

I like it. FFG gimme an upgrade card that shoots these things out of my Lambda-gini's!

I don't really have a problem with the cross guard/mini sabers off the sides thing. In fact I think it is different and kinda cool. What bugs me, a lot actually, is the weird fireish lightsaber effect. It's a lightsaber, not a fire sword. The lightsaber effect has been well established and loved the world over. Why are you reinventing an awesome wheel?

I need to wait until I see in action, maybe is the only lightsaber, or maybe all the new lightsabers are this way, and I love to see a fight using this new kind, greettings.

... a hilt that won't kill you or cut your hands off...

There are a number of reasons why the lightsaber is a bit silly, but this actually isn't one of them. One almost never comes into contact with the cross guard when using a sword. Unless something goes horribly wrong it stays between you and your opponent along with the blade. Also note that our Sith has an appropriately low grip on the hilt, so he's actually perfectly safe.

Pretty easily explainable as just an all-around low-quality weapon. For all we know that guy stumbling through the woods(am I the only one who thought he was walking like he just got whipped?) was the janitor at a museum for ancient and crappy Sith artifacts.

The sputtering blade, the oddly-placed hilt blades. Both signs of a poorly-built weapon. Exactly the kind of weapon that some incompetent Sith apprentice would mash out in a weekend.

I have heard fan explantions as to why that could be (fractured force crystals, etc) and that by itself would have been fine with me. It would be a very Sith thing to do ( more powerfull blade but less stable). But add the crossguard and now we have (as you acuratly put it) a flaming sword.

I wonder if this will lead into a thing in wich each new jedi/sithlord has to have his own special lightweapon.

Double saber, purple saber (not gonna argue with Sam Jackson, but...why?), lighttonfas, lightclub, lightwhip, lightzweihander...

But whats the point of complaining, right? I might aswell think of a few lightweapons of my own:

Now about a light polearm/ glaive. Or a trident! That would be cool to.

I am so pumped for this! It's new, different, a fresh take on a world we all love. New content in the setting I can't get enough of? Bring it on JJ, I am ready!!

And personally speaking, that's why I like it.

It makes me wonder if what we're seeing is an ancient (awakened?) Sith Lord, or at least one using ancient Sith artifacts.

One of the things I enjoyed about the Knights of the Old Republic games was the way they delved into the history of the Sith and the Jedi - something the Star Wars films so far barely touch on. And although Episode VII is progressing the timeline of the films forward, there's no reason why they can't flesh out some of the past at the same time. After all, with Vader and the Emperor gone, the new Sith threat needs to come from somewhere.

Meh, this is a lot of speculation to make from a single lightsaber shot. To me it looks cool, it's evocative and it instantly gives this particular Sith some character. Thumbs up from me.

I love this new saber. I think of it as an exhaust for a super powerful blade, perhaps unrefined and inefficient, but savage and primal.

IMO it looks pretty sick but the flaming effect is pretty weird

I'm not sure why everyone is automatically assuming this is a "new" lightsaber. What if this is a flashback scene showing some ancient sith with an outdated saber model? The Force Awakens and maybe we're seeing something from the past?

(Just playing the Devils advocate here)

You could have a point there.

Considering how Rebels are going with the OT saber designs, I do think the rather messy plasma in the saber hints to being a relic.

I haven't seen Rebels, but the messy plasma in that saber certainly furthers my suspicion.

It is the internet. There is always porn. ;)
