Dungeon Expansion - Treasure Chamber - Crown of Command

By ChillDread, in Talisman Rules Questions

Not certain if this has been asked before, but did not see it in the forums.

If a player defeats The Lord of Darkness and then has an 8+ greater attack score, resulting in emerging at the Crown of Command, can the player still emerge there without a Talisman?

Thanks,

CD

I guess yes, because you only need a talisman the place right before. By the way I don't like too much this "easy" way to go directly to the COC...

I have been in games where this was exploited, that is someone cycled spells right away until they got the one they needed to do this with a highly good chance early. Then when they did the same strategy in the next game I was quite upset.

I saw this happen 2-4 times but haven't played with those people since then. So I am not so upset about it. I also know the rules more and think they were not legally doing spells right at that time.

So while I think it is exploitable, I am not as upset about this as I used to be.

Around here, someone has challenged the Lord of Darkness about once every three games since adding the Dungeon. Probably more in the early going, but currently LoD has been taken on 50 times. 30 out of those 50 have resulted in exit at the Crown of Command. Addition of the City expansion and Flail seems to have bumped up the LoD bashing as well, by rolling doubles and denying the LoD its roll in combat, you don't even need that much of an advantage going in.

Even if you aren't strong enough to beat the Lord of Darkness by 8+, you can always take the Cloak of Feathers to skip the Inner Region as well. :)

Yeah I remember when Dungeon first came out and everyone and their dog did the "dungeon run" at the time we all thought it was like "cheating" I even designed a set of cards that made the Treasure room space random thus making it unknown if you would draw the Treasure room that allowed you to move to the coc. But Meh these days not many take the plunge I suppose its the pay off of it not working and the time it takes you to do it. There are alot of choices now.

Unless there is errata I'm unaware of, you don't need a Talisman to enter the Crown of Command. You need a Talisman to enter the Valley of Fire.
