The Alacritous A's

By Darph Nader, in X-Wing

Given the recent "A" thread below, I offer the following for consideration...

Tycho + PTL + AWTP + VI + PR (33)

Jake + Outmanuever + AWTP + VI + PR (31)

Arvel + AWTP + Intimidation + CR (23)

Tala Squadron (13)

100 points

No whining here, just winning. ;-)

The problem I have with A-Wing lists is the one you seem to have run into. That Tala isn't doing anything in that squad except taking space. And yet there's nothing else to do with those 13 points.

I like the components of this squad, and am reading like:

Yes!

Yes!

Yes!

LoL wat?!

To be fair Z's are filler ships. Now i'd personally drop the tala to a bandit and save the point for a 99 initiative bid.

Will be a fun build since A-wings are tons of fun but I just don't see it being super competitive.

I have been flying on and off the named Awing PTL swarm.

All four named pilots with chaardaan, push the limit and a wing test pilot. Two of them need it. Is it as cool as decking them out like your trio not really. But it can be done on 99 points and doesn't require a gala.

Man you said it try and do something with the Thankgiving leftovers is the issue. Sure could tone Tycho and Jake down to squeeze a Gemmer or GSP, then what you lose any real punch from the PR. They'll be dancing for sure, as for being competitive not so much methinks without serious dice results and superior flying.

@ AFP...

As for dropping to a bandido. Not sure with a PS10 & 9, that gaining init is all that important; as I'll want my A's to maneuver/respond after a high PS opp makes their move.

Far be it from me to offer criticism without offering ideas. :)

Here's a list with 4 A-Wings. The name stems from it being "AA" twice.

24 Step Program (99)

Tycho Celchu — A-Wing 26

Chardaan Refit -2

Expose 4

Experimental Interface 3

A-Wing Test Pilot 0

Arvel Crynyd — A-Wing 23

Chardaan Refit -2

Intimidation 2

A-Wing Test Pilot 0

Jake Farrell — A-Wing 24

Push the Limit 3

Chardaan Refit -2

Green Squadron Pilot — A-Wing 19

The EI/Exposed combo on Tycho is wizard, well crafted this is a great list.

If Arvel + Intimidation can contrive to have Han crash into him, Han is taking free hits from _everyone_, _all round_.

Frankly, if I'm building a Rebel list, I'd try to make sure I have the 23 points to include that, no matter what else I was taking along.

Truth be told since the days of the Kessel Runs, Arvel has been one of my favorites in this game. With the advent of Rebel Aces and Intimidation he finally gets his chance to shine.

Since he isn't using the second EPT slot, isn't PtL+Expose the same thing, only better? Same points gets you Expose + an action from your action bar. Except with PtL you could boost-TL for example instead (let's say you were just dodging arcs and had no shot). With EI, one of your actions must always be Expose if you want two actions.

That's a good point. I'd had that second EPT filled when making the list, and didn't _quite_ think through the implications of unfilling it to free up points.

Weirdly enough, the way PTL is worded, you'd have to take Expose _first_, because that's not "an action from your action bar". Whereas with Experimental Interface, you'd have to take Expose _Second_, for the same reason.

Which shouldn't really affect things all that much. But it might. And it's important to know exactly how these things work, In case for whatever reason it becomes important.

I have a lot of fun with my "Straight A's" squad.

Jake

Outmaneuver

Predator

Tycho

Munitions Failsafe

This would be hilariously frustrating for the opponents I think:

Tycho Celchu (26)
Daredevil (3)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Push the Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)
Jake Farrell (24)
Push the Limit (3)
Proton Rockets (3)
Outmaneuver (3)
Autothrusters (2)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)
Arvel Crynyd (23)
Proton Rockets (3)
Intimidation (2)
Experimental Interface (3)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)
Total: 98
Arvel 23 points
PR 3 points
Driving Arvel straight up into an enemy and cackling madly while you unload proton rockets in his face? Priceless.

I'm gonna definitely change out to Autothrusters as soon as they finally come out.

When I get Autothrusters I will be trying

2x Green squad with Chardaan, Outmaneuver, Autothrusters

2x Blue squad with Advanced Sensors, B/E2, Tactician

B-Wings are awesome and Outmaneuver on the A-Wings may have them a bit more bite. Either way it will be fun.

I'm with you here PP, my four A list looks like this...

Tycho + PTL + VI + AWTP + CR (28)

Jake + Outmanuever + VI + AWTP + CR (26)

Arvel + Intimidation + AWTP + CR (23)

Gemmer + PTL + AWTP + CR (23)

The issue is either you lose a gun to beef up the missile slot or you go for the ballroom dancing portion of the programme.

EI on Arvel puzzles me, can you explain how you're using it?

No, it's secret tech.

I think it's a leftover from when I was tricking out the list.
