Captain Oicunn

By Intys Rule, in X-Wing Rules Questions

"After executing a maneuver, each enemy ship you are touching suffers 1 Damage."

1. A PS1 ship moves and flies into the Decimator.

2. Capt. Oicunn moves and flies into a PS 5 ship.

3. A PS6 ship moves and flies into the Decimator.

Question: Do all ships suffer 1 damage for being in contact with the Decimator?

1. At first, we thought "no, it doesn't because the Deci hasn't moved yet," but then we realized it said "after executing a maneuver," NOT "after YOU execute a maneuver," so basically it means after EACH ship executes a maneuver, it checks if it is touching the Deci and if so, suffers 1 damage.

2. This was the obvious "yes" answer.

3. After we figured out that #1 might be a "yes," then this should be a yes as well.

Am I correct on all points?

4. If Capt. Oicunn had Anti-Pursuit Lasers, he would roll 1 attack die on examples 1 and 3, but not example 2 above, correct?

Thanks for any help!

You are correct with your 4th point however, only in example 2 would ships take damage from the deci. If for example 3 ships were in contact with Oicunn before he moved, then he stays in place choosing a maneuver that bumps causing no movement, all 3 ships in contact with him take damage.

Yeah, we thought that as well, that he'd have to do a maneuver, THEN check if any enemy ship is in contact with him and if so, give them 1 damage each. However, we then realized that it does not say "After YOU execute a maneuver" so does that mean if someone else executes a maneuver and bumps him, they get damaged?

So basically, we read it as "After [any ship] executes a maneuver, each enemy ship you are touching suffers 1 Damage."

Unless an ability explicitly refers to other ships it is talking about the ship it is on.

Your interpretation would result in

Ps1 hits decimator, takes damage

Decimator executes maneuver but hits ps 5 and so doesn't actually move. Ps5 and ps1 take a point if damage

Ps 6 moves and hits decimator. Ps 6, ps5 and ps 1 all take a point of damage.

Because, under your interpretation, after each maneuver "each enemy ship you are touching" takes damage.

If "after executing a maneuver" is not limited to Oicunn, it is not limited to ships that touch him either. So if any ship on the table executes a maneuver, everyone in contact with Oicunn suffers damage. That might be RAW but It certainly is not RAI. Therefore the ability is limited to Oicunn executing the maneuver.

Here's a question kind of ot.

Last night while playing 2 ships had collided into the decimator. Both touching two different areas on it.

Next round the decimator moves, but unable to go anywhere, stayed in place

So we played it as both ships still touching since they were previous round and the decimator couldn't move due to colliding with another ship.

We do that correctly?

I think so but like to make sure

Yes, as per the FAQ ruling on stationary shuttles.

If "after executing a maneuver" is not limited to Oicunn, it is not limited to ships that touch him either. As Forgottenlore says, unless an ability specifically references another ship, it applies to the ship it is on. So Oicunn's text does effectively say "After YOU execute a maneuver..."

RAW is perfectly fine here :)

So if any ship on the table executes a maneuver, everyone in contact with Oicunn suffers damage.

now that would be interesting. Oicunn parks in the middle of a tie swarm then moves 2 more ships, killing the whole swarm.
