we had in our group some discussion about the interaction between Explosion and Shield of Zorek. We use the german version of the game and the wordings intents that if the Lieutenant is not the target of the attack, but nearby, he has to suffer the effects (according to the Explosion rules), but the attacker does not suffer the effect of the shield, as this is only triggered if the Lieutenant is the target of the attack, that according to the wording in the German Rules he isn't (he is just "suffering" the effects of the attack).

How do you play it? Goes perhaps the wording in the english Rules in another direction?

The english card also specifies "targeted." The target of an attack is only the figure occupying the space declared in step 1 (the space range is measured to, as well.) "Blast" (or "Explosion" as you call it) causes other spaces to be affected by the attack, but not targeted by it. The shield of zorek's favor would not trigger.
