So about the Broadsaber

By Nyxen, in X-Wing

Some things that need to be kept in perspective

1. Historically speaking, combat styles that used crossguards like that used the blade as a handhold as often as the hilt, so it shouldn't necessarily be as combat effective as an actual broadsword.

2. The force is a powerful ally, and in theory would easily keep you from accidentally stabbing yourself/ whacking your wrist off with it.

3. God **** is that design sexy (I'm assuming here that the emitters for the crossguard are protected in some way from just being lopped off by the guy we're trying to block)

discuss.

He's the Nazgul of the Sith.

He's the Nazgul of the Sith.

Or the Voldemort of the Force.

Maybe something from Game of Thrones too.

There are several different kinds of metal in the Star Wars universe that can withstand a lightsaber.

I did startle at first, equally perplexed and impressed with the lightsaber crossguards. The historian in me thought on how there was a reason that crossguards weren't made by dagger blades, as it would be more dangerous to you than to your enemy.

But then I remembered that Star Wars was never meant to be realistic. Other Sci-Fi franchises do that. If anything it is a fairy tale dressed up in a new gown. Lightsabers are not the equivalent of the swords of a medieval knight (or a Samurai). They are magical swords and they can do all sorts of funky stuff that shouldn't be tested with logics. Suspend the disbelief and enjoy the ride (and hope that J.J. Abrams will be a better storyteller than Lucas was in the 90s) :D

an ancient evil, a terror…a terror that has no name…a terror that must not be named…

Darth Jar Jar

...Or you could take this discussion to somewhere more appropriate. If you didn't work it out yet, there are no lightsabers in the X-wing Miniatures Game.

Darn, no more Doomshuttles! :o

Looks like an extremely old saber to me that needs to vent, that could also explain why the blade isn't as 'smooth' as the sabers we've seen so far. Basically old tech.

Doom Decimater would work even better...I just have a problem with inflicting damage on my self. unless it involves mountain biking...lol

Don't forget the MF'n TERMINATOR stuff too.

Cortosis ore was a very rare, brittle, fibrous material whose conductive properties caused lightsabers to temporarily short out upon contact. This effect made cortosis a useful material for anti-lightsaber melee weapons, though with repeated strikes, a lightsaber could still cut through it. Cortosis, due to its energy resistant properties, was also resistant to blaster fire.

There are zero metals that can resist a light saber on their own, the emperor used to have blocks of cortosis in his throne room so he could protect himself.

As I said in another thread if you've allowed your enemy a strike anywhere near the hilt you've lost the weapon your hand and then your life.

Beskar says hello.

Cortosis shorts out lightsabers, but eventually fails, Beskar (also known as Mandalorian-Iron) is lightsaber proof. It is used on Mandalorian armor and ships, the way Jedi get through the armor is sense imperfections in the armor, and use the force to rip it apart.

"The Jedi, The Sith... Throughout the history of the galaxy, they have fought a never ending struggle of light and darkness. Each has left their mark, made their place in The Galaxy. Some marks, stronger than others, were left by The Sith. The relics that left these scars, buried with their masters- forgotten..."

"But some... Wish to bring these relics back to the light. The artifacts that marred history, that instilled fear into billions of beings. Some wish to use these dark fragments of history to make their own place, and to remind people- the legacy of The Sith."

"Be wary of these people, for they come and go, in and out of the folds of history, staining The Force and changing the balance. They leave their evil mark wherever they go, a signature left by the ancient Sith Lords, and themselves."

"These are The Grave Robbers. The ones that remind us that evil exists in The Galaxy. That the bearers of The Light side of The Force, must remain ever vigilant... For if they are not, these individuals will not remain reminders for long."

"They will become The New Sith Lords."

"The Jedi..."

What is that? Because if that's full on leaked spoiler material, it can get out of this thread pronto.

The crossguard isn't completely saber blade, it does have a physical crossguard bit. As for how it's actually meant to work combat-wise, I doubt it's there just for the cool factor: it'll come into play somehow.

Beskar says hello.

Beskar can't say hello because the Mary Sue police locked it away.

And thank god for those police.

As for spoiler material, well it's not 100% confirmed. But it makes sense.

Only Fando's take that seriously, hell didn't a writer also give them a ship that was nigh on indestructible?

Yeah. I think sh*t like that actually ruined The Mandalorians.

And thank god for those police.

If it's stuff that wasn't officially released I'm sure most people would appreciate it if it wasn't posted on the forum. Pretty much everyone's cool with trailers but nobody wants to see, for example, a leaked script.

Well it's definitely not a leaked script, I wrote that on the fly.

No issues then.

Just think of all the plastic lightsaber toy swords that will need to have little cross guard bits in them just imagine all the money they'll make!

"MOMMMYYYYY!!!! I hit myself with my lightsaber!"

"MOMMMYYYYY!!!! I hit myself with my lightsaber!"

that's **** near what those toys are designed for.

Should just just wrapped in up in a /spoiler tag

So I thought about the cross guards getting lopped off too however then I realized with light saber battles they have lightsaber locks. Which means when 2 lightsabers are forced together they "lock" together until pulled apart by the duelers. Unlike real swords where when to swords lock one can slide down and hit the users hand hence why cross guards are needed. That's why I agree with an earlier post that said they are vents from an old saber. Seems more likely to me but we will have to wait and see.
