Need storyline transition help...

By NGnear, in Game Masters

Hey all,

So, I've been playing through the Jewel of Yavin module with my AoR group and we're coming to the end. I'm looking for some ideas to help transition from where they are to where I'd like them to get to.

The party have recruited Elaiza (or at least, agreed to work with her) in order to get the jewel off-world. The variation of the story I've made is that the gem has a strong connection to the force and she intends to use it to make contact with her dead master's force ghost. He chides her for taking the easy path towards the dark side (using the gem to, well force a connection), and tells her instead to find his old ship, that she will find her answers there...

The party will help her find the ship, a Republic Cruiser hidden for many years since Order 66 was carried out. The general idea was that her master was aboard, hiding in a cave with a small team of clones while on a mission. Before they launch the mission, Order 66 was enacted and the Jedi slain, however before the clones received new orders, they were in turn killed. The ship sits in a cold cavern for 20 years until it is found again...

My original intention was simply to give the party a nice craft to use (I'm thinking a Consular, post refit), but this whole idea of involving Elaiza (and with her the Jedi/Force) has stuck in my mind and refuses to let go. On board they will find data banks containing...

And that's my problem, containing what? What information could a Jedi be looking for 20 years after the rest of her order was all-but exterminated? Information that she risks coming out of hiding to buy/steal the gem in order to make contact with her dead master.

Any suggestions? Information that would be useful to the Alliance, bearing in mind it was recorded 20 years earlier, that would help key in motivations/duty for my party? Once they have recovered the data and the ship I'll give them the option of helping Elaiza out as an ongoing campaign idea, if it's something meaty enough, or have them send her on her way and go run more conventional AoR adventures from there.

How about information on another survivor who she knew personally?

How about the jewel was part of her late master's Holocron but due to shortages during the war it was incorporated into his ship.

He removed the jewel as a failsafe think of it functioning as a start key but was killed by the clones before they knew what it was.

Unable to get the ship to work they headed to the nearest port where they were ambushed and killed.

The key mistaken for a valuable jewel was picked up and from then on the story of the Jewel is as in the book, Elaize recognised the jewel because she was present when the Holocron was being built and is unaware why her master's spirit wants her to find his ship.

Returning the jewel to the ship gains not just the cruiser but a Holocron that can also function as the ship's AI think of it as a JEDI Cruiser quite literally!

One thought is that, if you're interested in running Beyond the Rim , the ship's databanks could contain a clue to someone who knows about the lost Separatist ship.

Some great ideas here, please do keep them coming.

I should add a couple of additional points (I left them out of the original post to avoid making it too long, but they are pertinent to some of the ideas):

- One of the PCs is an Explorer/Archeologist who has a burning desire to see the Jewel returned to where the Empire stole it from, a fairly primitive race whom the PC worked with before the fall of the Republic. To link in Eliaza's back story, I had her as part of a Republic diplomatic mission to that planet prior to the Clone Wars in order to smooth the way for a follow-up party of Scientists/Archeologists/Anthropologists (including the PC) - so that's where she has seen the Gem before.

- It's possible that Elaiza is dying; if so, this is the driving force between coming out of hiding right now vs any time in the past 20 years

That the ship's databanks have information on a person is a possibility, but that information would, by definition, be 20 years old. One possibility along these lines is the identity of one or two force-sensitive younglings that her master discovered but didn't have a chance to report to the Jedi temple before he was killed; this would be her chance to find them, possibly to train or pass on some Jedi knowledge before she dies.

The holocron idea as part of the ship's computer is very interesting, but as I said, doesn't fit with the back story I've already established. I had already decided, however, on one of the idea threads that you brought up - the gem is the heart of an old holocron, hence why Elaiza is interested in it. It is a "stone of power" not because it is a weapon or energy source, but a source of knowledge. The race it was stolen from had a golden age in the past because their high priest/priestess would hold the stone and suddenly gain knowledge (without knowing why) as they subconsciously made a connection with the Jewel via the Force.

I've not looked at the storyline behind Beyond the Rim, but knowledge of a Clone War cache of weapons or ships would be a good motivator for the Party to help the Alliance. I'll take a look, thanks.

As I said, please do keep the ideas coming.

Have you been watching Star Wars Rebels?

If not try browsing on Fort Anaxes and give the two episodes dealing with that place a look, now imagine that Cruiser has the location of several dozen places like THAT I wonder what your players would think about that?

Sounds like you have a good transition to Beyond the Rim. One other thing that the ships data banks could contain is a NOC list of Jedi and the locations of various bolt holes and 'safe houses' across the galaxy. Its possible that the Jedi put together such a list in the event that something like Order 66 would ever occur...but Order 66 happened too swiftly and suddenly for the Jedi to enact their escape plans. Some of the information could be out of date...a lot of Jedi were slain, and more than a few rally points have since been discovered by the Empire. But there could be people and places that the Empire have yet to discover, and the data in the ships computer could help save the Jedi order.

Coordinates to Ilum - useful for anyone interested in building their own lightsaber.

Coming out of left-field here; how about no transition? Like in Desperate Housewives - Bam! Time has passed!
