I think A wings are pretty good as they are, but you can't help but notice that they are never used in competitive play. Jake and Tycho show up sometimes, but only because they have a barrel roll or other equally good ability. This card might help, and would also shore up some of the coming maneuverability disparity between Rebels/Imps and the coming S&V ships, almost all of which are absurdly maneuverable.

It seems pretty decent, but I might consider making it three points and limiting it to small-base ships. Targeting Computer is just two, but then, Target Lock is a pretty situational action. Mobility-based actions like Boost and Barrel Roll are worth a bit more, IMHO.

But would it fix the A-Wing? ...Maybe. Maybe. But I don't think the A-Wing's problem is a lack of maneuverability, but rather an over-abundance of it. A-Wings require a more flanky style of play, which doesn't always pair well with their two attack dice. I think Tycho and Jake are played more often due to their to maneuver AND keep offensive actions, and their ability to double up on offense when useful. Jake gets the focus/movement combo; Tycho gets the PtL combo. Honestly, I think that an upgrade card to give A-Wings a system slot would work better. Sure, Advanced Sensors would be nice; and Sensor Jammers could be really pesky; but an FCS on an A-Wing would really help to give it that extra bite.

Engine upgrade is four points, and I think barrel roll is better than boost.

So, maybe make it a title for a wings only at 2-3 points.

I kinda like having barrel roll only on a few ships, it really structures the game. On the other hand, even with chardan and test pilot, a wings aren't nearly as good as they should be.

I was thinking the same thing that it would be awesome if it was an A-wing thing but they already have that with Test Pilot Title into Expert Handling. It's not optimal but it is available. Hope and look forward to something many moons from now more like...

...or some such I would guess. This version would put a heavy price tag on it, as it should be, have no ship restriction in line with the existing two action mods, but still fit nicely on a Green Squad, or even an X-wing. 40pts would get you Wedge+R2Astromech+Push the Limit+Advanced Gyros, which while awesome almost feels like a fair cost for turning the best X-wing pilot in the game into a top notch Interceptor. Not a definitive, but also not out of the realm of possibility. Keep dreaming bro.

This does nothing to fix the a-wing. It's biggest problem is that it's a fairly expensive 2-dice ship, making it even more expensive just makes that problem worse.

To be real no that wouldn't 'fix'the a-wing. Except to make a one-of marginally neat to play with. I was wanting a missile slot that was like'enhanced blasters' and have you +1 firepower. But whatever.

The amount of damage you do and the probability of hitting are both determined with the same die roll, and the higher the damage output your ship has, the greater the chance that it hits. This doesn't really make sense, and as a result ships like the a-wing suffer.

Intuitively, maneuverable ships like the a-wing and most ties should have a high chance to hit and a lower damage output. The b-wing should have a lower chance to hit, but a higher damage output. Interceptors, ewings, etc. have high chances to hit and high damage output.

This could be partly fixed with a card like this:

"Set your attack value equal to your agility value. You cannot score more hits than your original printed attack value".

This increases the hit probability without increasing maximum damage output, and would benefit the tie advanced as well.

People seem to fail to notice that the A-Wing, while doing less damage than it's 3-dice counterparts, is designed to both arc dodge and take or evade a few hits. Compared to the TIE, it's far more nimble and healthy for nominal extra point cost. Compared to the Interceptor, it's nearly as nimble and still healthier for fewer points. But no, some narrow-minded people focus on just one thing only: "It has only 2 attack dice". Nothing else matters.

I'm sorry, I either must not have read your whole post, or you edited it afterward. I thought you were referring to designing the game around one roll to see if you hit, and another for damage. I still think the A-Wing is fine as a natural 2-dice ship. Make a 3-dice ship and you're power creeping. It fits it's design space perfectly.

There already is a barrel roll modification. It's a Title for A-Wings that allows you to equip Expert Handling. And with the refit, it doesn't cost anything.

The problem with A-Wings is that you can basically turn them into Interceptors, but with less firepower. And since Interceptors, even, are used less often now, that's why A-Wings are used even less. Really, though, Autothrusters will bring many A-Wings out to play.
