Official Trailer for Ep. 7 The Force Awakens

By Lancer999, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Also, there are weapons that can block sabres that are made of metali nthe prequels and in the clone wars cartoon so no reason why such a hilt would not work.

Then why not make the entire crossguard out of that metal? Would be much simpler then this half and half version.

Because it's cooler this way.

Agreed and a point I think couldn't be stressed more.

You go ahead and do that.

Makes more sense than arguing ad nauseum about how a cross guard would actually work.

Who is arguing though?

You both are. So both of you quit it and go hug an Ewok doll for 10 minutes before coming back.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to have created the saber with a V-shaped crossguard (if that is the intention) similar to this?:

Then, the crystal(s) split the lightsaber plasma blade as it comes out of the pommel into one central killing blade and two short side guards. There is thus no metal to be cut, only the plasma/laser blade can be struck. Makes more sense this way.

But back to my original opinion - it wouldn't have that cool Cross/Templar look.

Not arguing at all. Merely discussing the trailer and the things in it, if that is arguing then pretty much everyone contributing in this thread (including you) would be.

Your post that started this tangent consisted in its entirety of:

You go ahead and do that.

No discussion there.

I wasn't arguing but discussing, until this post.

I'll go hug an Ewok doll now.

Oh that one small post. Well that was basically not wanting to derail the conversation others and I myself were having and really as I said "let him do that". No arguing there, it might have been somewhat dismissive (eventhough it was meant to be funny and not inflamatory) but it can hardly be called arguing.

The teaser trailer looked good. It only poses questions which is what it should do.

The villain antagonist's lightsaber was sparking and sputtering because JJ Abrams is into that kind of thing when it comes to sound and visual design. The grittier, the better. Also, a red great sword cross motif makes for a striking visual and fits in a universe of laser katanas and laser staves.

With Palpatine dead (probably?), this trilogy will hinge on how memorable the main baddie is. Vader is a pop culture icon and this will be the first film that does not feature him in some way.

I wouldn't be too fast to state that... There have been rumors and leaked concept art where Vader's mask was a central piece to scenes.

The lens flare edition:

This really got me laughing. Love it.

I wouldn't be too fast to state that... There have been rumors and leaked concept art where Vader's mask was a central piece to scenes.

I can just see it:

fade from black to Vader's mask, very close up, maybe eyes only, heavy breathing;

begin slow pan backwards, heaving breathing sound is modified, more modulated, pan back to include mouth piece;

continue slow pan backwards, breathing sound now punctuated with shouts and...is that laughter?

Continue pan backwards, definite sounds of a party going on, pan back...a dart lands, thunk!, right next to the mask, shouts of encouragement, pan backwards, it's a bar...it's the Rebel mess hall, and they're all taking turns trying to hit Vader's mask in the eye...

I know it is bad form to answer a joke all seriously like this, but oh well....

As some of the other leaked art from the same source shows stuff that was in the teaser I guess Vader will indeed be "featured in some way."

So did this guy go to Endor and dug up vader's remains?

Allas poor Vader, I knew him, Horatio.

I can feel the anger dwelling within you...

Someone much earlier said that the falcon was flying much like a fighter. Not really... here's a "stabilized" shot:

It's more that the camera was trying to follow it, almost what you would see from a fighter's cockpit. I've played X-wing enough times 20 years ago that flying a more maneuverable fighter behind a freighter often looked like this...

It's more like the Falcon is coming out of a Koiogran turn.

It is definitely coming out of a K-Turn. Since that is a stressful maneuver, it probably did a 2 straight coming out of that to clear the stress and put him behind the TIE Fighters, who took their maneuvers first and either zoomed past him or overlapped.

The mask isn't the character though. Bringing Anakin Skywalker back after his redemption and heroic death would be insulting and I think Abrams is smart enough to know that.

My reply was to "does not feature him in some way" not to "bringing Anakin Skywalker back".

I guess if you consider the mask the character that's true.

Didn't the Emperor survive in the EU? Maybe thats what was being show in these...

To me, it looks like the MF was just doing a dive and pulled up at the last second. Possibly to gain speed to get away from other pursuers? Of course, that doesn't explain the weird camera turn, which the Koiogran probably would be better for. Although, we don't know anything about that scene. How many Tie's are there? Just those two or is there a fleet? Where did those two Tie's come from, they aren't visible in the opening horizon shot. Why isn't the MF shooting its guns?

All in all though, it looks **** cool.

I guess if you consider the mask the character that's true.

Well I do consider that featuring him in some way.

From a certain point of view.

Ummm Tie Fighters (or Any Fighters for that matter) do NOT come in "Fleets"

They come in Squadrons!
