Official Trailer for Ep. 7 The Force Awakens

By Lancer999, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I loved it. It was much better than Cats. I'm going to see it again and again.

From what I've read and seen, it appears the Galactic civilization is on hard times after the fall of the Empire.

Where did you read this? As far as I know there is no story info released at all...

The droid looks like a cross between the remote droid Luke used for training and an astromech, both from ANH so it doesn't have to be a 'new' model of course....

Awesome teaser by the way. I personally Love the hilts on that "broadsaber" but have seen a lot of 'rage' on the internet over it, some people are just looking for things to be upset about.

Looks great though I was kind of hoping we would see some new ship types in the movie but ll the trailer hs is stuff tht was in ANH. And what kind of moron has side blades emerging from the hilt of his lightsaber?

the kind that doesn't want his fingers cut off if another saber user decides to just slide his blade down the others when they block each other. Many old swords had guards just like that for that exact reason
Hmmm, I thought the metal bits stuck out a little so that the metal would be easy to cut through in that scenario, i.e that they would be useless for that purpose.

The X-wings looked a bit different than what I remembered, not sure how, maybe they seemed a bit smaller with a larger cockpit, maybe the cockpit was a bit higher so the pilot could turn around and see behind him.

I noticed something about the X-wings as well. How the s-foils connect to the cannons is a bit different from the old ones. Smoother, I guess.

The new X-Wings are sleeker with redesigned wings and engine intakes. The wings went from 2 wings stacked on each other to a split wing design where the front half of the wing goes down and the back half up when deployed. The intakes for the engines now form a full circle when the wing is closed and half circles when the S Foils are in attack position.

Now, if FFG can get these out for Wave 8 or 9, I'll be a very happy gamer.

In that way, coupled with the shorter fuselage/"nose" the new X-Wings look a lot more like Z-95 Headhunters with split-wing S-foils.

Like the many wise philosophers one can find on the internet, I simply "can't even." Squee.

I *LITERALLY* can't even.

With more consideration, my hopes for the movie are suddenly dropping at horrifying rates. This looks next to nothing like a Star Wars movie. it looks like a dramatic movie that tries to be great but ends up mediocre a best.

But who knows? Whenever I think "This is gonna suck," it either sucks because it reasonably should (a shot, a paintball to the thigh, a vacuum cleaner, etc.), or it's utterly amazing. To believe I thought Guardians of the Galaxy would be lame!

Still, with what we have in this trailer, low hopes. Very low hopes. But again, it's not enough to judge off of. Anyways, I'll still be watching the movie.

Thinking about the little soccer ball droid, I probably would have thought it was stupid if I hadn't recently seen Interstellar, which featured an incredibly dumb-looking robot that was used effectively in the story.

Okay, colour me impressed. I am quite satisfied with the "teaser" trailer. It has enough punch in my opinion to get things started. Still on the fence with the Stormtrooper Design Change, but I think I can live with it. The droid looks cute enough to being a new fan fave, plus I hope that's the standard Star Wars Comedy Relief add-in for this generation of movies. But we shall see, I guess.

Ships looked awesome (of course), and really gave it a sense of speed...even in an atmosphere. And I am more than glad that we're going back to Tatooine! That little dust ball definitely IS the center of the universe.

JJ...you have my faith now. Be mindful with the power Disney has given you.

I read an idea elsewhere that whoever made the red light saber may not have known what he was doing fully and it left it unstable, requiring vents in the hilt to dissipate the unfocused energy of the crystal. The title implies force users are even more rare now than in A New Hope, so it seems plausible there could be someone out there trying to figure it out on his own. This theory makes the most sense to me.

It is just my imagination, or do the X-Wings not have astro droids in them?

You can't really tell. When the S Foils are in attack position, the housings on the upper engines block line of sight to the Astromech's position in the fighter from the side.

WARNING: Speculation follows that could be spoilerific if later found to be correct.

Several steps to get where I end up.

This previously wild rumor has some credence with the new trailer being released and compared to it.

Recall that in the movie canon, Luke's cut off hand and saber were not recovered. Disney has tossed the EU.

There are rumors elsewhere that has Luke being somehow grotesque and even having flickering redness in his eyes. The link above and others speak of Luke removing himself due to discovering mega-Force powers and fearing he could slip to the dark side and become his father. Those same rumors have you wondering if Luke will be this crazy, possibly evil, monkish figure that will envitably turn out to be good and help guide the heroes against the new bad.

A female character is seen finding something important and bringing it to a sinister looking fellow on possibly Tatooine. The new trailer adds credence to this. Finding a light saber? Vader's mask? Rumors have the sinister looking figure being an "Inquisitor" possibly corrupting the evil female lead and she later goes to find Luke. Other rumors refute this (see below).

Then we have this leaked concept art:

With the rumors and descriptions above, is this the "Inquisitor" or is it Luke?! Will episode VII end with some sort of spectacular reveal such as the above figure removing the half-mask and donning his father's?

On seeing it again and contemplating it, I am a bit puzzled. We see a lot of images that might have fit in to the Original Trilogy: X-wings, Stormtroopers, TIE-fighters, etc.

That means I see two options: either the "old characters" get a few flashbacks of the 30 years in between or 30 years after Endor there is still an Empire and there are still Siths. The second option would really suck, because what the heck did they fight for at Endor? I like J.J.Abrams taking a fresh look at things, so I am still confident that it will be cool (heck, it's Star Wars, so I will watch it ANYWAY), but I really want Endor to be a major accomplishment, not just another battle in the endless war.

P.S.: @ Desslok: cutting off the cross-bar-emitters would only be possible, if they are NOT covered in Cortosis. And it would still be better than a sword with Cortosis cross-bars because it's smaller when deactivated.

I think J.J. said early on he was making a film for the fans, so there is that. I am expecting it to be OT trilogy superfan overload.

That aside, can we talk about the implication that this is the first mention of the Light side of the Force in any movie!? Does this mean there are 2 sides now? That the Dark Side was not a corruption of the Force but a separate side? Does this mean one can balance and draw from both sides? Does this mean that Gray Jedi are the ideal? AAAAAAAAA!?

From a previous sneak peek by JJ Abrams the Snub fighter was a Z-95

x-wing-fighter.jpg

The ones on in the teaser were X-wings, but without the Astromech slot. In the original X-wing The astromech right behind the cockpit and you can often see the droid on the other side the back window of the canopy in the Original movies.

The X-wing pilot is Oscar Isaac and the writing we see is in upside down Aurebesh and translates to "Pull to inflate"

If the TCW season 6 stuff is any guide (and it *is* considered canon), then no. The dark side is simply a corrupting influence. All you can do is hold it at bay and be aware of its influence. If you ignore it because of your hubris (as Yoda learned), it takes over in ways you didn't expect. If you willfully draw on it, it corrupts everything you do.

It's not a scale where your good deeds balance your bad deeds. That's just an RPG mechanic.

That is a terrible idea. I've seen it happen before with Eighties Doctor Who - when you narrow the focus of the show down to just the fans, you lose the casual audience. And your property - whatever it may be - cannot support itself on just the fanbase alone.

The fans are the guaranteed demographic - you already have their ticket purchase. What you need to hook is the Joe Sixpack, the ones that don't care about Star Wars.

WHAT!!!??? people don't care about Star Wars?

Yeah, like the "Star Wars demographic" alone doesn't guarantee maximum profit... I guess Disney paid billions for a relatively well known and mildly loved series.

One thing I love about Star Wars is that has tens of millions of fans how all feel like they are one of the few.

One thing I love about Star Wars is that has tens of millions of fans how all feel like they are one of the few.

...because there's so many different things to love about it.

Sure!

But not tens of millions of things... And still it works that way!

Lucas sure hit the sweet spot that one time.

When I mean catering to the fans, I mean the hard core ones who know Thrawn's whole name, who know who Palpatine's Sith Boss was, or what an S-Foil is. That sort of crowd. If they cater to the folks who need a PHD in who Lumiya was, the series is doomed - it happened with Star Trek, it happened with Doctor Who.

No, I mean the folks who are surfing past TNT on Christmas and go "Hey Honey, Star Wars is on! I haven't seen that in years - lets watch!". The Casual Fans are the folks that you have to win. That's why I stand behind my statement that making a movie full of "Superfan Overload" is folly.

Edited by Desslok

Again, they paid billions of dollars because the masses will come. Period.

Now, for the record I am a "hardcore fan" that has no idea what Thrawn's full name is, has no idea who Palpatine's Sith Boss was and has no PHD on Lumiya. In fact I would be hard pressed to get a D- on Lumiya.

But I am still a Star Wars freak who is pretty sure J. J. Abrams has no idea what Thrawn's full name is, has no idea who Palpatine's Sith Boss was and has no PHD on Lumiya. when he said for "the fans" I am pretty sure he meant the "fans" not the "geeks who thought every fart smelled great just because it had a SW logo on it". There is a reason they turned the EU into legends.

That reason was not "the fans."
