Is there confirmation that this is legit? I've been hearing that the trailers that hit the web today are fake.

Its on apple iTunes trailers which are always legit.

My understanding was that a lot of the fake trailers had dropped prior to today, and being cited as "leaks."

My favorite of the lot was the one that shortly after the title shots turned into a rick-roll, if only because I still find amusement in that old meme.

Looking sweet! I especially loved the scene with the X-wings flying low over water. And that was one evil-looking lightsaber.

I got rickrolled a few days ago. However, this one is the real deal. Head shots of John Boyega, as well as Daisy Ridley, new stormtroopers, droids, x-wings, a funky new red-bladed lightsaber, and the Falcon doing a low altitude koiogran turn. :) what's not to like?

Also, Squeeeeeeee!! :)

I'd say it's real. I saw a fake one, which was obvious due to the definition and such. This looks real though. The mix of animation makes me think such.

Also, my heart exploding in excitement prevents me from squeeing.

If it’s a fake, its highly viral: even the official Star Wars website was infected:

If that trailer is fake, I want more stuff from the people who did it!

It's looking great so far.

It makes me think that the scared stormtrooper at the beginning has just become force sensitive and he's having a massive panic attack due to sensory overload. Then again it's probably wishful thinking.

Also, did anyone notice the rectangular 'radar' dish/sensor array on the Falcon? I'm guessing Han couldn't get a stock circular one because of Lando's mishap inside Death Star II.

I keep throwing money at the screen but i don't get The Force Awakens, only a little teaser no matter how much i throw at it :o

Looks great though I was kind of hoping we would see some new ship types in the movie but ll the trailer hs is stuff tht was in ANH. And what kind of moron has side blades emerging from the hilt of his lightsaber?

I liked about 85% of the trailer. Not excited about three-bladed lightsabers; it's like Gilette razors: 1 blade, no 2 blades, no 5 blades! It's getting kind of ridiculous. Also not so sure about the soccer-ball droid. The rest was awesome, though.

Same kind that twirls a double sided one like a drum majorette.......

I did. Actually, the square/rectangular dish on the Falcon looks closer to the "stock" dish that is typical of most YT-1300s according to the Falcon's Haynes Manual. In fact, from what I can see of it, it's pretty close to it.

I thought I saw pointy bits on the front of the ties (a little bit like Maul's sith infiltrator from the phantom menace, but not nearly as big) but they went by to fast to be sure. And finally the falcon, maneuvers like a star fighter (the roll in which it was being used). In ESB it flew like a bomber, sluggish in a graceful sort of way with just so happened to be perfect timing, which made it hard to imagine it could get through the asteroid field, in RotJ it wasn't much different in the shots where you got to see it's handling. Inside the death star 2 you mostly had the view from the cockpit. And again Tatooine seems to be the bright center of the universe (rather than the armpit of the galaxy)

In the X-wing game, the falcon *IS* that maneuverable, especially in tight close-in turns. It's not as a fast as basic tie fighters, but I can certainly see it pull a koiogran turn and then a hard left turn after a short straightaway.

In the RPG, that kind of maneuver could be attributed to the ability of the pilot.

the kind that doesn't want his fingers cut off if another saber user decides to just slide his blade down the others when they block each other. Many old swords had guards just like that for that exact reason

Hmmm, I thought the metal bits stuck out a little so that the metal would be easy to cut through in that scenario, i.e that they would be useless for that purpose.

The X-wings looked a bit different than what I remembered, not sure how, maybe they seemed a bit smaller with a larger cockpit, maybe the cockpit was a bit higher so the pilot could turn around and see behind him.

Like the many wise philosophers one can find on the internet, I simply "can't even." Squee.

I noticed something about the X-wings as well. How the s-foils connect to the cannons is a bit different from the old ones. Smoother, I guess.

My initial thoughts:

  • Stormtrooper played by a named actor. I'm guessing he is not a "bad" guy. So, are the new Stormtrooper armored dudes not an Empire remnant? Does the Stormtrooper-sans-helmet we see end up on the side of the good guys? I'm going with this one since he looks highly distressed and lost....which means he will be found, perhaps by the speeder gal. Also, you hear the obvious Imperial Probe Droid sound in the background, like there is one nearby, when we see him. That makes me think he must be part of an Imperial remnant/descendant. I love the idea of a Stormtrooper that joins the good side. Deep.
  • Not sure if I like the new Astromech. From what I've read and seen, it appears the Galactic civilization is on hard times after the fall of the Empire. That technology (keeping the ball attached with some sort of force field the droid head) seems a step forward, not backwards. That one will give the toymakers some problems.
  • Stormtroopers look very modernized, even their weapons. The Imperial remnant/descendants don't appear to be on hard times like the rest of the galaxy?
  • Cool speeder gal. We've had Speeder Bikes and Swoop Bikes. This thing is yet another step up in size.
  • Best part of the clip for me was the nape-of-earth flight of the X-wing-2's. I noted the old Rebellion symbol still in use on the pilot's outfit.
  • Like the look and movements of the Sith guy. Made me think "Evil Templar" with the cross-shapped lightsaber striding through the dark, sinister forest. The lightsaber appeared to have some flickering issues. Problems with rediscovery of the old technology to make them? The crossguard looks cool. Assumption would be it's use is the same as archaic sword crossguards. But, there is a gap there in the corner that would be an issue catching another lightsaber. It would also give a nasty punch at close-in range. I'm guessing the crossguard is going to lead to all sorts of fan rage/debate.
  • Falcon was great. We are going to get to see the Falcon in action again! I slowed down to look at the TIEs and can't tell if there are any differences. I thought it strange that it appears the Falcon actually flys THROUGH the TIEs? (edit: nevermind, looked again, they just zip by really fast and really close).
  • Nothing in the flick contained any of the old humor and light heartedness found in the prior movies. Perhaps that is just due to the selection for this trailer, we might see a more light hearted one later. My adult self would probably like a much deeper and darker tale then the old Star Wars, so I wouldn't be upset if Abrams went this route.
  • The narration (dark side.....and the light) and the movie title makes it seem the Force has yet again fallen into disuse and is not as prevalent as what happened in the EU (newly founded Jedi order).
  • When is the next trailer? :)
