Considering Palpatine thoroughly killed him (used the force to completely mutilate Pagueis body) that seems unlikely.

I had not read that book, until that point I had considered the whole "Spirit of Palpatine" after the events of Jedi. Palpatine's force spirit went off to inhabit one of his cryo-clones, thus opening the story that Plagueis gained his immortality by possessing the body of Palpatine. My summation given the tale told to Anakin, by Palpatine, during Revenge. Not trying to reference Star Wars EU Legends to much. I am theorizing, now, that maybe Palpatine DID achieve immortality with Vader's help and this is him again. What with that weird blue ghost explosion and Sith scream on his 'death' in Jedi, this is, considering the information you just gave me here... I should read up. Thanks, Jagged

Even in the EU the Empire never completely disappeared. The Imperial remnant still used ties.

And in this retooling of the sw galaxy it seems like the New Republic may have never taken power, the Empire never lost it.

Very true. Even with the Emperor, Vader, and the second Death Star destroyed... The Empire still had significant military might to leverage towards a ragtag rebel force. Even if and when the Alliance managed to truly gain the upper hand, it could take decades to "mop-up" Imperial remnants. SW:TFA could take place in a setting where the civil war is a long, drawn-out slog through the mud for all sides.

True, not to mention, Tarkin tells us that the regional governors have direct control over their systems.

So now we have thousands of systems; ruled by individual, if not corrupt, governments without central power of authority of the senate. Having independent control also means their own military, how easy do think it would be to say, roll on over Corella and tell CorSec they MUST fall inline with the new leadership, 'or else'? In addition to that, they likely have Imperial kit, cheaply made, mass produced and easy to come by. Considering how long a CR-90 stayed in service for Alderaan, a fleet of Sienar fighters would not be that hard to come by.

I agree with doing the Han solo movie. That would be a good story in its own right. Working for a corrupt organization and then saving a slave, who swears a life oath, and then running for the rest of your life, dodging bounty hunters and mercenaries while trying to live off the grid. It almost writes itself.

Boba Fett's story could be cool in that it could start at the end of ROTJ , with Boba digging his way out of the sarlac pit, and showing what happened time-wise from right after the death of the Emperor. If only Boba goes against the Empire in the end.

Not sure how Red 5 will pan out. If it centered on Rogue squadron and how the common fighter pilot went at it against the Empire then that may be cool but I'm not sure if it will be a good enough story to tell.

To be fair, it's not the media that's focusing on "the black stormtrooper." It's just a group of trolls who don't know the difference between "stormtrooper" and "clone trooper". The media is just reporting on the outcry from those trolls.

I have read/heard that the Boba film will be kind of like a heist story about getting the Deathstar plans, and Boba will have a crew.

The Red Five stuff should be like Blacksheep Squadron... kinda.

There is at least one new cartoon coming also, after Rebels finishes it's four or so seasons up.
