Just listened to the Scum & Villainy podcast interview with the designers (great job) where they discussed fixing things and FFG's reluctance to errata, let alone re-release, things. Likewise the A-wing has reappeared from left field after a relative period of contentment with the reveal of Autothrusters. So this got me thinking, what about an "Aces" release that just included cardboard/cards?
Cost it wicked cheap, say MSRP $10 -- so you know other places will cost it around $7 --, and fill it with fixes. The theme can be mechanics and how they are the unsung heroes of space navies. Write the description like the "pilots" being supported are implied to be the consumer as well and you can expand the support to basic game supplies as well.
Include:
For the pilots
-Fixes (say the TIE/Adv, new base cards for A-wings with rear arcs, whatever, etc.)
-Errata'd cards (adjusted price points, texts, etc.)
-2 of each generic modifications (Hull, Shield, Engine, Shield, etc.)
-1 of each special modification (Anti-pursuit Lasers, Autothrusters, etc.)
-1 of each unique Title (Falcon, Outrider, Moldy Crow, etc)
-2 of each generic Title (A-wing Test Pilot, B-wing/E2, etc)
-1 of each secondary weapon
-Generic Astromechs
For the consumer as "pilots"
-An additional pair of dice
-Another range ruler
-Extra pegs, both small and large
-2 more of each base token (focus, evade, stress, target lock)
This way new errata can be introduced, cheap cardboard can be done on their own like the set is a "hanger" of sorts. Fixes for secondary weapons could also be included. The cardboard is cheap so they'd turn a profit. But there'd be so much in it that people would gladly pay for a grab bag of updates and supplies. Players could trade what they needed as well.
From a buisiness point of view I can see the argument that spreading it out forces people to buy more. But who seriously buys the dice pack when they could get all this? They could even do a "Hanger Deck" for each faction so they're not going gangbusters, thereby forcing us to buy three.
Hell, make it $15 MSRP, throw in a nice cardboard hanger floor to hold cards for games. Rebels get a dingy looking deck, Imperials squeaky clean, Scum cracked concrete. I'd buy it. Anybody else think something like this would be cool?
