Lightsaber Skill, related weapons and some doubts.

By Wulfherr, in General Discussion

One of my players asked me if they could use Lighsaber skill while fighting with a vibrosword.

Now I guess RAW suggest no, but considering Ancient Sword is technically a blade too I would be willing to make an exception, unless there is some reason I shouldn't?

On a not completely unrelated note, does Training Lightsaber allow you to Parry and Reflect?

Do I understand correctly that Ancient Sword doesn't, according to errata?

Thanks! :)

Well, they are two separate skills so it is a no in the RAW. You could make an exception but I would advise against it because it's a door thats difficult to close once open. Other players in your group might want to be able to just pick up a LS and go at it without having to take LS skill.

You can Parry & Reflect with a Training LS, not sure about the Ancient Sword.

Ancient Sword falls under the Lightsaber category because the actual blade's lighter weight essentially makes it similar to how a Lightsaber feels. I'd recommend requiring some sort of attachment that essentially swaps the blade out for a lighter one. You could potentially let them keep the Pierce and Vicious qualities since the Vibro technology is in the hilt itself I think - may need to drop Defensive though.

Training Lightsaber allows Parry and Reflect. Ancient Sword allows Parry, but not Reflect (as the errata changed it so a lightsaber weapon is now only things thrown into "Lightsaber Weapon" sections).

Thanks. I forgot parry doesn't actually require Lightsaber. As for the Vibrosword, I can just reskin Ancient Blade as "modern replica built according to some ancient instructions and contemporary tech"(making it more expensive) if the player wants to use it. I think I'll only keep Vicious though.

Important part, this weapon should now be unusable with the Melee skill (and only usable with the Lightsaber skill).

There's an attachment that allows Ranged (Heavy) weapons to be used with Ranged (Light), so it's not too unlikely that similar attachments might allows other skills to be swapped.
