Would interceptors and defenders be a viable list?
Int's and D'
If the word viable is seriously subjective....
2 PS1 Deltas
2 PS1 Alphas
ummmm...
I just want to mix it up....I know rebels really well and love those two ships in theory
Taking that you said ints and defs in a list i assumed you wanted to see multiples of those ships in 1 list, hence the original post. A more balanceed list(if you could call it that) would be Rex & 3 Alphas with 9 points for upgrades(maybe HLC and VI?). Dunno...
Ive been recently looking into some kind of a Howl + Alpha mini swarm for laughs oddly enough
I've played this to some casual success before:
Colonel Vessery (35) + Heavy Laser Cannon (7) + Veteran Instincts (1)
Turr Phennir (25) + Push the Limit (3) + Targeting Computer (2)
Royal Guard Pilot (22) + Push the Limit (3) + Targeting Computer (2)
Vessery hits really freaking hard, while the squints can happily pass on shots to dodge arcs and still contribute to killing the enemy squad. Probably won't win you any tournaments, but it's certainly playable.
EDIT: Forgot the VI...
Edited by DR4COThis is certainly a possible list currently.
Showed up at worlds top 32 in variations, but none of them got into the top 16
I want do something unique and yet fun to run
I just recently started running something similar:
40 pt Defender: Rexler Brath(37) + Predator(3) (or Outmaneuver)
35 pt Interceptor: Soontir Fel(27) + Title(0) + PTL(3) + Stealth(3) + Targeting Computer(2)
25 pt Doomshuttle: Omnicron(21) + Vader(3) + Tactical Jammer(1)
If you really want to replace the shuttle with something more mobile, go for another interceptor:
25 pt Interceptor: Royal Guard(22) + PTL(3) (or Predator)

100 points
Pilots
------
Howlrunner (20)
TIE Fighter (18), Swarm Tactics (2)
Avenger Squadron Pilot (20) x 4
This has been a fun list ![]()
You could downgrade two interceptors to alphas and give Howlrunner a SU for slight longevity. Unfortunately can't really see a way to incorporate defenders AND interceptors en masse due to defender being so expensive.

Defenders lock things down and Soontir his like a truck.
Edited by RividiusRividius. In your build Id prefer to remove the ion cannons and take vessery for more damage
Horses for courses. I really like Ion Defenders, but yes, Vessery would pump out more damage.
If I was going to use Vessery I'd go with this.
Vessery with HLC
2x Saber with PtL, Autothrusters, TC
Edit - Even better
Rex w HLC, Predator/Lone Wolf/VI/Stealth Field/Hull upgrade - Whatever you want really. (up to 48)
2x Saber with PtL, Autothrusters (26x 2 = 52)
Edited by RividiusAfter seeing your initial post I thought of a recent list I've had fun with:
Academy Pilot
Academy Pilot
Academy Pilot
Delta Squadron Pilot
Soontir Fel + Push the Limit + Hull Upgrade
------------
99 Points
Soontir is your standard Ace and moves after most.
Why the Delta Squadron? I like defenders moving at PS1 so it's more difficult to be blocked. A naked defender can still dish out a ton of damage and has the same defense as your more expensive named pilots. Also, I found that Vessery works well when you build around him, but that takes even more points from your list, and Brath's ability works best if you can somehow get multiple actions in order to generate hits AND flip them. Much of the time I wouldn't need to or couldn't use Brath's ability and his Pilot Skill became more of a hindrance.
Academy Pilots are there to muck things up when you need to block enemy ships for action denial or decloak lanes of phantoms. If you don't feel they'll be valuable blockers off the bat, fly them in a mini formation to focus some fire until the opportunity presents itself.
Rexlar Brath w/HLC + Predator
Carnor Jax w/PTL
2 x Academies (could use Doomshuttle instead)
I've had some fun running that list. Carnor can shoot before Rex to peel off some shields and takes away Rex's target's ability to spend defensive tokens. Spend focus tokens when attacking with Rex like you normally would but if Rex ends up getting damage through without needing to spend a token treat it as a bonus. The one exception is that when attacking a low agility target with a lot of hull and you roll more hits than they can block don't spend the token unless you have at least 2 eyeballs to flip.

Thinking of trying something similar, but want 2 black squads with intimidation instead of 3 APs

I've run this list a few times, except with Shield Upgrade instead of Autothrusters and Targeting Computer. Done very well too, won four out of five games. I expect it'll be even stronger once the Starviper is here.
I love the defender and the interceptor too!
+++ Defender (100pts) +++
++ Imperial (Standard) (100pts) ++
+ TIE Defender (46pts) +
PS 8 - •Rexler Brath (46pts) [Heavy Laser Cannon (7pts), Wingman (2pts)]
+ TIE Interceptor (30pts) +
PS 9 - •Soontir Fel (30pts) [Push the Limit (3pts)]
+ Lambda-Class Shuttle (24pts) +
PS 2 - Omicron Group Pilot (24pts) [•Darth Vader (3pts)]

Drop wingman from Rex, Soontir doesn't need help shedding stress and the OGP is to slow to keep up with him.
Instead take VI if you want to threaten Phantoms or Targeting Computer on Soontir.
Otherwise it's a pretty cool anchor + 2 wrecking balls. ![]()
