Eaden Vrill Efficiency

By TIE Pilot, in X-Wing

Eaden Vrill is a 3 atttack Outrider provided you run him in a list that's stressing opponents.

My question to the mathematical masters of the X-wing forum is this: assuming you can keep your opponents stressed (which Vrill aside is a positive in of itself), how efficient is he compared to other YT-2400s/turretbricks/comparable ships? Is he a ship worth considering in terms of power and efficiency or is he a ship you'd use just for the fun of setting up the combo?

At only 32 points it seems that he's well priced. Even if you don't have a way to deal stress you'll get the extra damage when your opponent K-Turns his ships or if they use PTL. If ships with PTL or EI aren't using those abilities to deprive Vrill of the extra dice then Vrill's ability was probably worth bringing.

Vrill gets you a decent outrider cheaply.

I suspect he will benefit from whatever the flechette cannon will do.

Fortunately the rebels have plenty of stressing options with flechete torpedoes and R3-A2.

Costing about as much as an E-wing with a turret and 3 more hull finding 2 Y-wings to put in a stress ion build makes it a nice addition as the biggest problem with ion is the lack of damage they put out.

Not really as his ability triggers off of his primary attack.

Put it on a B wing,

I'm doing a massive overhaul of my scripts to look at every single pilot, coincidentally I am running through the YT-2400's now.

Look for a full post later, but short answer now, is Vrill's jousting efficiency vs stressed targets is ~85%, which is extremely good for a turreted ship!

Yeah, I think you don't want to be too close to Vrill and stressed which is another bonus for using him: the psychological warfare. Suddenly there is another price for getting stressed which you have to take into account when choosing maneuvers or actions.

List I want to try

Vrill with recon specialist

Hobbie with R3-A2

Roark with Ion cannon and Tactician

Bandit Squadron pilot

two ways to stress an opponent, one clears his own stress, the other has an Ion to keep someone stressed and Vrill is tanky.

I was thinking along much the same lines, but with Dash Rendar on Roark, the Tactician being primary arc only and range 2 specific while Dash would allow Roark to hide amongst the asteroids with some impunity.

This is exactly how I feel. I think Vrill is going to be the go-to YT-2400 you bring when you aren't running a list with the Outrider title. Even w/o stress support from your own squad, most squads these days will stress themselves somehow. Would I bring stress support anyway? Most likely...because it's a great mechanic against many ships AND it synergizes well with Vrill. However, I wouldn't feel the need to bring a ton of stress inducers...it might be overkill in the control department and my damage output might suffer.

I understand your thinking, but Roark can Stress and Ion at the same time, meaning two turns of stress for an opponent. While Dash does have his advantages (I wouldn't go around parking on asteroids on purpose, but its a nice insurance, and not being obscured in cool), if tactician activates even once per game and Ions, its done its job IMO.

Vrill might find a spot as 58 point Action Dash's wingman. A lot of the counters to Dash will be ships that use PTL/EI to increase their number of actions to be able to get into his donut and lay some damage on them. They'll have to keep an eye on their stress around Vrill or give him a big boost.

Dash crew works even if you aren't on an asteroid, so you don't have to park to get the benefit. If you hang out near rocks with him you'll get the defense boost from the obstacle but you're opponent won't

I think that an AS B-Wing with Dash and an HLC would make a pretty good asteroid field sniper. He'd get 2 extra defense dice a lot of the time while denying those bonuses to his enemy. It's probably too expensive to be viable but it would be fun if you could pull it off.

Assuming that the Flechette cannon is at all stress-related, that and a Gunner could do it :)
