Which of these upgrades do you think needs to be re-printed?

By DraconPyrothayan, in X-Wing

What follows is a list of all upgrades that only appear once, in ships that you can only be fielded four-of or fewer in a 100 point fleet.

The number to their right is the difference between the max number their ship can be fielded in a 100 point fleet, and the max number the upgrade in question can be fielded in a 100 point fleet. Upgrades with negative numbers have been removed.

Which of them do you think needs to be re-released, as Push the Limit once was?

R5 Astromech 1

Countermeasures 1

Tactical Jammer 1

R7 Astromech 2

Navigator 2

Tactician 2

Expose 2

Predator 2

Ruthlessness 2

Engine Upgrade 3

Stealth Device 3

Stay On Target 3
Draw Their Fire 3
Proximity Mines 3
Intimidation 4

Honestly, I think all of them should be printed in more expansions. Especially since most of those are only available in large ships.

For my part, the Prox Mines are in high demand. However, I won't be getting a second Slave I, nor do I imagine I'll get the IG-2000, which will also have them. So, while I am an ardent TIE Bomber pilot - on whom the Prox Mine is awesome - I don't have many prospects of getting more without overspending in order to get them.

Engine upgrade and proximity mines.

Of those, Proximity Mines are at the top.

I'm also a proponent of more ships with Sensor Jammer.

For sure predator, I bought a second defender just to get another, even though I didn't play with one defender that much, let alone two.

definitely tactician. Rebel's dont naturally have access to that card and it is getting increasingly popular on Bwings.

kind to think of it, the first known "reprint" was pretty much Advanced Sensors, because the Bwings wanted to use them but only came with the Shuttle, until the Ewing arrived.

The elephant in the room, I think is the pay-to-win concept. How necessary are these upgrades to play competitively in the meta-in-becoming?

For my part, I'm fairly comfortable that I can make competitive builds without needing to buy ships I won't use just to get the upgrade cards that I would ideally like. However, the fact that I would like to include those upgrades in my builds does suggest that the builds I can build are sub-optimal compared to those I would ideally like to build.

I'm not saying this from a woe-is-me point of view, but still tossing the notion out there for comment.

Of those, Proximity Mines are at the top.

Prox mines will be coming in the IG-2000

Every reprinted card is a new card that doesn't get released, so you've got to balance it. Of those, I'd say Engine Upgrade is the one in dire need of rerelease. The other cards are either too new to really be considering right now or they're not ones you'll be using many of.

Engine Upgrade is at the top of the list. It's only available on a single Rebel large base ship that has been in very short supply and doesn't look like it will be coming with anything else before Wave 7 at the earliest.

If there was a second Imperial Aces set that featured the Bomber and Advanced it would make sense to include both Proximity Mines and Engine Upgrades.

Engine upgrade for absolutely annoying requirement to buy for imperials. And six waves later still no reprint.

Prox mine. Eventually maybe the crew and astromech from the huge ships.

Personally, I absolutely want to get more Draw Their Fire out there.
A swarm of DTF Blacks is insane, as the damage gets evenly spread throughout the squad, meaning I don't actually lose attack dice.

Prox mine. Eventually maybe the crew and astromech from the huge ships.

I like the idea of a mine-laying Imperial huge.

For my part, the Prox Mines are in high demand.

I think its paradoxical in X-Wing that you cannot proxy the mine even if you could approximate the size of Proximity Mine to game mat. Then you could just call it Proxy Mine instead of Proximity Mine.

(Sorry :))

Every reprinted card is a new card that doesn't get released, so you've got to balance it.

Where do you get that from? I don't believe there's any sort of hard limit on the number of upgrade cards they will put in a given release. All of Wave 4 had 5 upgrades, but the HWK only had 3.

I don't know if any came with 6 or more. But they clearly don't have a hard and fast rule on how many upgrades they put in a package. So there's no reason to assume that Engine Upgrade would mean something else not being put in an expansion.

Engine Upgrade, Draw Their Fire, and Proximity Mines (though luckily we are finally getting another ship with the latter).

a lot of these are wave 4 and 5 though. Sure I would like a couple to pop up in other expansions. Notably engine upgrade and stealth device. But the newer ones will come, sooner or later. Outrider would have been a good choice for the engine upgrade card. It even comes with the boost card for leebo. But if I look at the number of upgrade cards I have, and the amount of doubles (and triples, and quads and octas), it looks like they are doing a decent job spreading it out. But of course new ones that are only just introduced, will be single for the moment.

A fair point :)

Removing the Wave 4-5 cards, and cards I didn't know were getting reprinted in Wave 6, we have:

R5 Astromech 1 (X-Wing)

Navigator 2 (Shuttle)

Expose 2 (Slave 1)

Engine Upgrade 3 (Falcon)

Stealth Device 3 (Slave 1)

Draw Their Fire 3 (Falcon)

Certainly has to be Engine Upgrade. It's almost one of the main requirements for a fair few ships. To be honest, I wish there was some limiter on it besides just being a modification, the ability to give anything boost is a rather powerful one, and really sucks that it only comes in one incredibly rare expansion.

Then again maybe four points and using the mod slot is balance enough, but I'd prefer not seeing every ship in the game boosting round like an A-Wing.

Engine upgrade and Stealth Device stand out as mod that can be taken by any ship and are popular but only in a large ship box, both from the same wave, if you look at the list with waves 4+ removed I think you are more likely to see these cards repeated next.

I guess you could squeeze in the two cheapest named VT-49s with just Experimental Interface and Expose. That's exactly 100 points.

EDIT: I just realized that EI is unique. There's no reason to have more than one copy of expose.

Two four dice turrets with 32 hit points may not suck too hard.
