What would you consider is the best/most useful overall upgrade card in X-Wing? My vote would go to Veteran Instincts, since the current trend seems to favour higher PS and it's a nice boost for the low cost. The downside is its rarity (only available in the Firespray and YT-1300 expansions).

PTL or Engine Upgrade.

There is no single "best" upgrade card. Different upgrades synergies in various ways with specific pilot abilities and lists.

I think Engine Upgrade is probably the most accessable and all around most used upgrade card. The only ships that can't be improved with them are those that already have boost.

VI requires an EPT where Upgrades don't.

For the lists i fly which are high speed , high manouvre, low hit int lists (a wings and squints) or lists that thrive on stress like by 3 b wing list its PTL.

I basically get two actions with either a ton of choices to clear the stress or a stress clearer that makes my shooting or defence better.

VI can also end up being a waste of points depending on the list your opponent puts on the table.

Yep, i've had that happen to me before. Put it on some already 'ok' PS pilots to get in first and ended up wasting the points as everything i had was higher PS than him anyway....

The named pilots sometimes have others that can be better, but you really cant go wrong with these.
