Hi everybody,

I was looking for Tie repaints and only found better paint jobs than the prepainted one, Phantoms cloaking and Royal Guard repaints, (and an Hello Kitty Tie Fighter)... Rebels have some awesome color variations, but Imperials are stuck with the "base colors"...

I know the fluff reasons, but has anyone tried something different ? This is my first repaint of a miniature and it was done past midnight so I'll do some touch-ups, but before I do I want the opinion of some fans of the games... I might try to add the Imperial Logo or a squad custom logo in white, havn't decided yet. The blue stripes would change from ship to ship. Hopes the links work...

And since I'm going to a tournament next saturday, I'd like some input on my list :

Echo + Fire Control + VI + ACD

Rexler Brath + Predator

Omicron Shuttle + Anti Pursuit Lasers

I'm liking the grey you did on the panels, gives it a neat look.

I know a guy who did the regular grey on a tie fighter in a silver, that looked really good.

Ties with purple trim also stand out nicely, though I haven't been able to find the picture of them that I originally saw.

Nice job. I would suggest thinning that black a bit though, it looks a bit thick. Same with the red on the cockpit. I like the scheme - did you tape off the purple? It looks really crisp from the pictures above.

For your list, I suggest something that uses this model.

Khyros, this is my first paint job, what would thinning the paint do ? Would the details of the miniature appear better, or would that change the color ? The stripes are blue, maybe the picture isn't great, but I plan to keep the same color but change the patterns. I followed the lines on the model, did not tape anything.

Awing test pilot, I tried this on a Tie Fighter because I have five but plan to do all my imperials, those I use for the tournament before saturday if I feel comfortable, I might do another Tie Fighter tonight.

The Imperial symbol might be hard to do free-hand, but I don't have any idea for now for a logo for my squad.

Thinning the paint would allow the detail to show up better, and if you layer you should still get the same shade in the end.

I've seen some fantastic imp cogs on the wings of TIEs, I just wish my hand was steady enough. I did get a stencil, but need to figure a better way to get it on there. It doesn't quite fit right, I may have to cut it and place it where I need it.

Nice job on this for a first time effort. Look forward to seeing the rest when you're done.

For that glass you could give it a wash of black to fill the areas, I did that to a couple advanced ties and it looks great. I like the effect it gives of a red lit interior...

Oneway, I have the army painter paint kit, would the dark ink give the same result as the wash, and is washing just thinning with still more water ? I've painted some more tonight and I'm close to finishing another fighter, my phantom (without the classic cloaking effect) and my favorite one, the defender, but man does it have a lot of panels I will do some touch up tomorrow, and maybe try to improve the cockpits... The symbols I wanted to do will wait till I get better

From what I've heard those inks are awesome. It should be very much like a wash, though find something to test it on, even if its the bottom of one of the miniatures. Then thin it as you need. Water is fine to thin with on acrylic paints, though I have learned a small amount of future floor wax & water (equal parts each) and a little of your color make a great wash. Though if this is a new thing for you, just use some water and then experimant when you have something to practice on.

I'll be doing the same soon, lol even as long as I've been painting models and miniatures, I've learned a few new tricks recently.

I think I prefer this as it matches the way the blood stripe went on the Imperial Aces Interceptor. I may still do a little more highlighting and shading, but overall I'm pretty happy with it. I wish the picture did it better justice, but such is photography.

Viper, I'm just a hack painter, I have some ideas, and I do stuff that .. appeals to me.. for some of my stuff, check the first page of the REPAINTS thread.. I did a few posts with stuff as well but they are buried deep in the pages.. lol.

Here is my grey/blue Advanced, with my 'Royal' Vader advanced as well.. I like the way the grey/blue came out, it looks better in real time than here, it actually is spot on for a twin of the interceptors coloring.

Yes, according to the Wookiee, the stripes are Gamma Squadron, though it said nothing about a darker paintjob. That said, the imagery does have those Gamma Squadrons looking a bit dark.

For the time being, I'm not planning to paint any of the others of my 4 bombers this scheme. One thing I really do like about the Empire is the uniformity of them. Nevertheless, there are the bloodstripes of Soontir Fell's 181st Fighter wing, incl. Saber Squadron, so it's not unheard of in the canon. ... and I just wanted to try this out.

Okay, that was about as lucid as my thought process on the matter. Suffice to say: I think it looks cool, and I'll probably use this model to represent any named Bombers that I choose to fly.

Sabers are nice, but they only get the blood stripe if they have 10 kills to their name. In the 181st, Fel is Saber 1, I think Phennir is Saber 2...

As for who you fly on that repaint.. have at it my friend, enjoy your work and show it off. I will eventually paint the Gamma stripes on most of my bombers, as I do dig the way that looks, but I have one with gold stripes on the top wing to denote command.. may darken it or give it a more grey look just for grins..

Well here it is, the final result (for now) for all the ships I need for my tournament tomorrow and my first experiments (the fighters)... When I get better I'll revisit them, for now I'll get better on miniatures from other board games like Relic and Dust Tactics.
