jek and elusiveness

By shifty33, in X-Wing

So I am wondering can jek trigger elusiveness more then once on a single attack just he has to roll for each re roll?

Usually cards like this trigger once per opportunity, so only once per attack. Getting rid of the stress, you could potentially use it for many more attacks.

You can use it more than once per round. Looks pretty nice on him.

let's go through the math quickly.

first, elusiveness itself, your opponent rerolls a dice that hit. without focus tokens or other modifiers, 1/2 chance of hitting (3/4 if opponent has focus)

now, you have to roll an attack dice to clear the stress, 3/8 chance of hitting yourself

cases:

opponent hits again + you hit yourself = 0.5 * 0.375 = 0.1875

opponent hits again + you are safe = 0.5 * 0.625 = 0.3125

opponent misses + you hit yourself = 0.5 * 0.375 = 0.1875

total chance of you doing the elusiveness combo and still taking at least 1 damage = 69%

chance of you dealing "double damage" = 19%

chance of you being completely safe = 31%

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

and that's if opponent doesnt have a focus. If he does have a focus

opponent hits again + you hit yourself = 0.75 * 0.375 = 0.28125

opponent hits again + you are safe = 0.75 * 0.625 = 0.46875

opponent misses + you hit yourself = 0.25 * 0.375 = 0.09375

total chance of you doing the elusiveness combo and still taking at least 1 damage = 0.84375 = 84%

chance of you dealing "double damage" = 28%

chance of you being completely safe = 12%

bit of a High Risk, No Returns if you ask me

I know the chances are bad but I'm just wondering cause of an fun list I wanna do. Dodgy xwings so something like jek with elusiveness and the astro that can get ride of facedown damage cards and tarin I think is his name that get a target lock when ever he is attacked with the astro that make the enemy re roll the attack with the target lock. Just a fun idea I had at work not even close to competitive lol.just wondering cause jek says when u receive the stress u can get rid of it so I figured with that u could use it more then once on a single attack.

I like rolling the dice, and **** the odds!

There are a number of things to consider with this. Porkins will deal himself a damage card. This goes through shields. It's important because if you combine him with R5-D8, he can remove that hit 5/8 of the time. So, you might remove a hit to take a hit, but if it leaves a shield and deals a card, then it's worth it. That's because you can then remove that hit with R5-D8. \

Also, if you are able to turn a critical hit into anything else, then it's worth it.

Is it crazy super good? No. Is it worth it? I say yes. If there is but one person firing on him that round, it's worth it. If you are facing a Tie Swarm, it's not worth it. It's not a game breaking mechanic, but it is useful.

or you could simply give him a better EPT like Stay On Target

I think R5-D8 is the better option with Porkins. If R5-D8 is used as an action when the stress is removed, it means there is only a 14% chance that you end up with a hit. That's good odds. I've also found that R5-D8 helps to keep Porkins alive even when he's not trying to do his thing. If Porkins takes a hull hit, I don't really want to use his ability at all, but I've found I can take a turn out of combat and use the action to remove that hit, and he's back in the game again. I can routinely remove around 5 hits a game with him, and they weren't all caused by Porkin's own ability.

I like the idea of taking both R5-D8 and Stay on Target, but that starts making him expensive.

Stay on Target might be a better option on him than Push the Limit. That kinda blows my mind.

oh ya little trick with Stay On Target. Always pick straight 4 when trying to do the K4, so if there's an overlap you wont get any stress at all. If there's no overlap, simply trigger StayOnTarget into your K4
