Where is the sensor array mod?

By whafrog, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I have some players who are likely going to want to upgrade their ship, and one of the items might be the ship sensors (for HWK-290, the range is short). I could have sworn there was a way to upgrade this, but I can't find it. Does it exist?

TIA...

Not yet. Hopefully it'll show up in Fly Casual .

Yeah I remember being surprised that it wasn't in Enter the Unknown.

Its in Age of Rebellion under the 'Comms Range'

Comms and sensors are not precisely the same. Comms start with the base range of the ship's sensors, but that mod extends them past that without extending sensor range.

Thanks all, I guess I'll have to wait. I guess I could house rule grabbing a medium sensor from an A-Wing, but the current campaign precedes A-Wings.

Comm array upgrade is what you are looking for.

Comm array upgrade is what you are looking for.

This only affects the range of the communications of a ship, not its sensor range.

Given sensors play a minor mechanical role in the game I don't think I'd over complicate it. Just have them grab a military grade one and slap it on their ride. Put a price you're comfortable with on it and call it done. I'm not sure you're ever going to see hard mechanical rules for an element of ships the devs have already said is mostly considered narrative in nature.

I thought I read somewhere that sensor range isn't as hard and fast as it seems in the book. The range listed is just the very detailed range, i.e. from X-Wing when you had to fly close to ships to get their registration information. If you're looking for them to be able to tell there's a Star Destroyer approaching from Extreme range, I think even a basic snubfighter sensor package would be able to pick that up.

If I had to guess I'd hazard that either Stay on Target or Fly Casual will have an attachment that boosts sensors.

Another way to treat the matter is if sensors and comms have identical ranges because they are just separate applications of the same physical system. Communications reception and sensor reception are both possible functions of a directional receiving antenna, active sensors and comms transmissions of a transmitter of some kind. At least for electromagnetic sensors (or subspace, or whatever), why not use the same equipment attached to two separate electronics packages? It would save weight on the spacecraft.

I wrote a more in-depth version of this elsewhere, if there is interest. The point is that it could justify the comms upgrade as also a sensor upgrade (because the hardware for both would be the same). It might also solve certain difficulties with sensor bands, because unless you run silent your own comm range becomes the distance at which other ships see you, not necessarily their own, shorter sensor range.
