A fun Squadron I managed to throw together.

By Kingsguard, in X-Wing

"Three Amigos" or "Sharing is caring" or "Helpyhelperton" (Name to be determined later) 100pts

Airen Cracken 19pts

Decoy 2pts

Assault Missiles 5pts

Garven Dreis 26pts

R2-D2 4pts

Proton Torpedoes 4pts

"Dutch" Vander 23pts

R5-D8 3pts

Munitions Failsafe 1pts

Ion Cannon 5pts

Proton Torpedoes 4pts

Proton Torpedoes 4pts

So I just got both the X-Wing and Z-95 expansions last week. And I always liked playing guys that help each other so I grabbed all my pilots who can buff allies and looked em over to see if i could find any fun synergies. Sure enough, I think I found some!

So first off, everybody has some kind of one-time secondary weapon. Dutch's ability helps everybody get those lock-ons without having to spend the effort to lock-on to things.

Garven gets to throw Dutch a focus token to help him get those torpedo hits.

Airen has the highest pilot skill, so he gets to attack first. Early game since Dutch has lower pilot skill, he may very likely move first and have to accept that the enemy team will get to range 3 after he's already activated too far away to lock-on. Cracken fixes this by shooting first and giving Dutch a free action to lock-on who then gives Garven a Torpedo lock as well.

Decoy comes in handy if you want Garven to shoot first and give him focus token to Airen or if you need Dutch to shoot early. Ion Cannon of course helps Dutch nail fighters who outmaneuver him. Both Astromech droids have repair abilities to try and help Dutch and Garven survive longer. Airen's pilot ability can also be used to let dutch activate R5-D8's ability without having to lose the target lock action while Garven keeps him focused. There's so many choices with this squad that I found it very fun to play. I might want to throw a Hawk-290 in there at some point....

What do you folks think?

Looks like too many points in secondary weapons to me. A y-wing with a turret and 2 torps is excessive. If you drop 3 torps you can get another Z95, drop all torps/missiles and get an a-wing (and maybe even a 2 pt upgrade). Missiles/Torps just aren't that great.

Good ol' Dutch and Garven. BFFs and all that. And Airen gets along with everyone, of course. You could even call this the get-along-gang...

I think you could drop all those torpedoes and take another Bandit

I only have the one Z-95. I do love my A-Wings but it would mean adding a ship without a supportive ability to my squad of all supportive abilities...

Really, I know it's against the meta but I kinda like all the secondary weapons. The many abilities seem to enable them to fire them off to great effect and hit really hard in the opening turns. Admittedly I only played one game so far against a friend who is also very new at the game but my three dudes shot the hell out of the enemy fighters in the first three turns with their disposable ordinance and after then it was just a clean-up with Ion cannons and a few shots.

You could even call this the get-along-gang...

Darn, another good name.....this will require some serious soul-searching....

If you ditch R5-D8, 3x Proton Torpedoes, Munitions Failsafe, and Assault Missiles, you get a Rookie Pilot, which is going to do far more damage.

You could keep it exactly the way it is and have a blast playing it. That's what I'd do, but I am not a tournament player.

Personally, I'd switch a P. Torp. from Dutch for an Engine Upgrade, but it looks like a fun list!

AND further benefit from all the action passing, that's the real reason you want another ship in this list. All the ships you have are force multipliers, so a larger forced benefits more. I'd cut the assault missiles, R5d8 and two proton torpedoes for an A wing

Cluster Missiles will let Airen hand out two actions in a turn. I think the timing would work out to let Dutch pass a target lock for Airen to use to modify the second cluster missile attack.

R7-T1 would let Dutch boost out of arcs and take a target lock during the combat phase if he was the recipient of the action that Airen passes out.

You could make them all PS 8 and harder to kill

Airen Cracken (19)
Swarm Tactics (2)
Assault Missiles (5)
Hull Upgrade (3)

Garven Dreis (26)
Flechette Torpedoes (2)
R2-D6 (1)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Shield Upgrade (4)

"Dutch" Vander (23)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Flechette Torpedoes (2)
Flechette Torpedoes (2)
R4-D6 (1)
Shield Upgrade (4)

Total: 100

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

That works?!

I'll keep my eyes out for an E-Wing.

Lots of stuff I don't yet have...

No engine upgrade.

Cracken's ability triggers after every attack that he makes.

From the Cluster Missile entry in the FAQ:

"Cluster Missiles is treated as two separate attacks against the same target. "

This isn't a super tournament competitive list, but if your just playing with friends or at your LGS, this will be a lot of fun. I feel like these 3 pilots will teach you a lot about how to fly together and maximize your actions. For one of your first squads, I think this will do great for you.

Cool. Well next time I am totally gonna use those clusters. I definitely intend to keep playing and improving it.

It's awesome having multiple pilots with the same skill, but Airen is actually the only one with an EPT slot. How about finding a spot for a Focus Fountain Kyle Katarn in the Moldy Crow with a Recon Specialist?

I faced something similar last night:

Garven

Dutch (R5-K6)

Blount (Ion Pulse Missile, Wingman)

Cracken (Assault Missiles, Munitions Failsafe, Decoy)

100 points

Lots of action passing.

I once had my hat handed to me by this same list I had 2 defenders and something it was brutal

That what R4-D6 and swam tactics is for so they can all shoot at the same time but a Kyle is also a very good choice

hehe Yeah, not an easy list to beat for sure. I managed to win but it was close. I flew Vader (EU), Vessery and Soontir (PTL, Targeting Computer). Only lost Vader but the other two were down to 2 hulls each. I had to do a LOT of arc dodging to stay alive.
