my first tournament list

By throb rinkor, in X-Wing Battle Reports

So with a local tournament coming up, I had to update my list and get some practice.

Echo- FCS, gunner, veteran Instincts, advanced cloak

Howlrunner- swarm tactics

4 academy pilots

Points- 98

My opponent

2x gold squadron- ion cannon turrets

2x dagger squadron- advanced sensors

Points- 100

So initiative was the only good thing that went for me in the beginning.

So I seemed to have forgotten how to fly, because I bring echo from the right corner in front of my tie formation. Most of the asteroids were on the left side of the board, so to keep the rebels flying up the middle towards my ties, I maneuver echo left to bounce around the asteroids, keeping my opponent curious and cautious. So my mistakes were made moving. I didn't aggressively fly the ties into combat. Losing one academy to the bwing, howlrunner got boxed in, and ioned, so howlrunner was gone very quickly. After k-turning the 2 remain academy pilots, echo finally declares and jumps into range 2. A solo of echo and tie fire drains a b - wing of its shields. But echo takes an ion. Things are not looking good here. But my luck changed as the 2 ties take out the damaged bwing, and echo barrel rolls out of range. The next turn, flying my ties aggressively at the rebels, de cloaking echo for a range 3 shot at the remaining bwing, shields and hull get breached. His y wings make a risky k-turn, just barely staying in play, echo damages the bwing, the academy pilots show some skill and dodge 2 ion attacks, and finally kill the last bwing. Time runs out, and after losing 1 academy pilot and howlrunner, the 2 b-wing casualties gave me the victory. Too close for comfort, and I definitely need to fly my list abit better, but I guess you can recover from a very rocky start.

My original plan was to use outmanuver instead of veteran Instincts, but if someone bids on higher pilot skill, echo could die before he does any damage. Any thoughts on my current list are welcome
