Do like running 2 defenders?

By bmwrider, in X-Wing

Some of suggested I buy a second defender so I did, now I I am struggling to come up with a good build.

I am trying to run both with HLC and a 3rd ship but it just seems like a bad idea to do an EMP build with only 3 ships, I have never run something so small unless its the rebels.

any suggestions?

The Defender is wonderful in the Fact that it has an all 3 stat line. Using this to your advantage, why not drop the HLCs and got for the high PS?

Why not run without HLC?

100pts

Rexler Brath +Predator

Delta Sqd Pilot

Omicron group pilot +FCS+Gunner+Tactician

I understand the logic behind the big guns but why add only 1 die if you could add more ships that have good damage potential instead? Alternatively you could run two deltas with HLC if that is your thing. Still beastly, just low ps.

Try Epic. You can fit a fully kitted Brath, a fully kitted Vessery and all the requiste support in.

This is my favorite list:

2x Delta Squad w/HLC

Captain Jonus with Squad Leader and Flechette Torpedoes

It is incredibly destructive, I've taken down a falcon in two turns with this list.

Must have been some pretty hot dice to pull that off.

Dropping a Falcon in two rounds only takes slightly better that average rolls. Below average rolls(but not dice gods are against you crappy) should take it down in 3. With the Jonus rerolls and a focus token it's not unusual to get 4 hits from each HLC. That's 16 points of damage just from the Defenders. With 3PO and an Evade the Falcon will stop at least 4 four points of damage in two rounds and at most stop 6 of the damage. Assuming that the Falcon gets an evade result on one of the two defense rolls that doesn't get 3PO, Jonus needs to deal a single point of damage each round to take the Falcon out. If the Falcon didn't have 3PO and didn't use it's action for an Evade each round it is even more likely to go down in two round.

I like the following at 100 point:

Rexler Brath

+ Predator

Colonel Vessery

+ Veteran Instinct

Omicron Group Pilot

+ Weapons Engineer

This list really depends on your ability to fly these ships in optimal position without being as punishing as an Interceptor list when you fail to predict your oponents moves; the Shuttle is obviously the weak link as it cannot keep up the more maneuverable Defenders but Weapons Eng. not only synergizes very well with Vessery but since you perform TL twice in a turn, it can do more reds than usually

If you are playing for laughts (and with an oppoent that allows unreleased cards) I can recommend:

Rexler

+ Lone Wolf*/Predator/Ruthlessness, HLC, Shield U

Vessery

+ Lone Wolf*/Outmaneuver/Ruthlessness, HLC, Shield U

* as Lone Wolf is unique the other Defender has to take another EPT

It is very fun to play but don't expect to beat a Phantom or a group of A-Wings/Interceptors with it

2 onyx defenders escorting a mercenary firespray using a recon specialist, 22 hit points takes a while to chew through two focus allows the firespray to boost defence and offence and 9 attack is a solid amount of fire power to single something down.

My list of choice is 2 deltas with ions, and Soontir with shield and ptl

I bought two defenders, but only to get a second predator card. I doubt there will be many times I play with both at once, other than a high point or epic game.

2x Delta with HLC

Turr + VI

loads of fun.

I have run, and been successful with: Delta Squadron TIE Defender x3 with Ion Cannons. Ion the targets in place White K turn behind and pound away.

My list of choice is 2 deltas with ions, and Soontir with shield and ptl

Basically what I'd reconmend

Defenders are hilarious Ion Cannon users thanks to the white k-turn. Sure, they cost as much as a firespray, but they have ion and aren't penalized for k-turning it on their enemies (whereas a firespray's auxiliary arc cannot shoot 2ndary weapons)

Round it out with basically the only 30ish point monster the empire can field (everyone else being morbidly expensive, especially considering rebels can slap Predator on Wedge and call it a day) and you got yourself a list
