Proximity Mines Question

By FNG tie pilot, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Kath Scarlet (PS7) moves. Then as an action, drops proximity mines. The mines land under the base of an enemy Academy TIE fighter (PS1) and Carnor Jax (PS9).

1. Do you wait to detonate the mines until you finish moving Carnor Jax? (since the academy has already moved, Jax is moving, therefore activating the mines)

2. Do the mines hit all ships touching them at the time they explode or just the ship that triggered them?

A proximity mine that is placed under a ship's base immediately detonates, otherwise it detonates whenever a ship or template overlaps it.

If a ship drops a Proximity Mine so that it overlaps multiple ships, the player dropping the mine chooses which ship suffers the effects of the Proximity Mine detonating.

This is the correct answer. I should point out that this was just added in the most recent FAQ. Previously, if that prox mine had been dropped, it would only go off after a ship moved and touched it with the template or final position. The change has made the prox mines more viable and valuable.

At Worlds, twice I one-shotted a full health Soontir Fel with a Prox Mine. :D

Ooo, that's nasty!

Is there anything in the rules that would bar dropping mines that overlap one another? I was thinking about dropping a pile of 3 mines in the corner where the GR-75 has to exit the board in the Evacuation of Hoth Mission 1. That way, even if my squadron is destroyed, I still get to sit back and enjoy watching him try to get the transport off the map without blowing up from (possibly) 9 unavoidable damage dice. Of course my opponent would slow down, build energy, and reinforce first, but it would still be a crappy situation for him.

I can't find anything that says that bomb tokens cannot overlap one another. Anyone know?

No problem, you can certainly drop mines on top of each other.

This is pure evil. I like it.

LOL. Unfortunately, I'm not sure it will work, because I realized that I didn't read the scenario carefully enough. In H1, it says that the transport has to exit the map with one portion still in the play area at range 1-2. I was thinking it had to be WITHIN range 2, but that's not the case. If any part of the GR-75's base is at range 2, it's legal. So, it has more room to get off the map than I thought. I knew the mine idea was too good to be true. I think I can still force it to run over one, but not 3.

My idea was pure evil, but I have to admit, if I were running rebels on Hoth 1, I'd be kind of annoyed if my opponent forced me into running over a pile of mines.

Its like the defenders know what they are doing!

DO the nubs count on the mine template? Had a game that when I dropped a Proximity Mine (using Emon's 3 turn drop) just missed my opponent but when he turned he overlapped the nubs but not the main circle of the mine. Quick glance of rules gave nothing either way. What is your call?

Yes.

Yes. The nubs are part of the proximity mine token, therefore they count.

The only time in the game where nubs do not count is when you are determining range.

You cannot measure range from the nubs on the front/back of your ship base, nor can you measure to your opponents nubs.

One thing that is not made explicitly clear is whether you should consider the nubs on a seismic charge or proton bomb token when checking if a ship is at range 1.

I would rule it that the restriction against using nubs to determine range from ship to ship would also apply here, and the nubs on the bomb token do not count for checking the range 1 blast area.
