cause giant centipedes
i wouild say a 1 across the characteristics except for maybe an Agility of 2.. Thats my guess anyway.
I've been thinking and Agility 3 seems more fitting. And maybe a wound threshold of 4 or 5.
Edited by TirisilexI think the Agility characteristic is a bit misleading, possibly even misnamed. The skills associated with Agility are piloting and shooting skills, which have a lot more to do with manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination than physical agility. A character could be a fat, sloppy mess with bad knees and asthma--hardly what you'd consider agile--but an expert marksman and ace freighter pilot. I think Agility should have been called Dexterity.
It's also Coordination and Stealth, so creepy-crawlies should have it too.
Edited by GranSoloI'm not a biologist, but reading the wikipedia entry, I don't find anything particularly exciting about an extinct herbivorous arthropod. Looking at a mynock for realative abilties, here I go:
Arthropleura (Minion)
Brawn: 1
Agility: 2
Intellect: 1
Cunning: 1
Willpower: 1
Presence: 1
Soak Value: 1
Wound Threshold: 4
Defense: 1/1
Skills (group only): Brawl, Coordination.
Talents: None
Abilities:
Equipment: Sucker Mouth [brawl; Damage 3; Critical 5; Range [Engaged]; Disorient 1].
Justifications: The lower agility is because I don't seem them as nimble as a flying mynock. The talents create a small critter that has the ability to drop down on unsuspecting PCs. Not a real threat, but could freak them out nontheless. I lowered the damage on the sucker mouth, but added the Disorient quality to simulate a mild poison...not that the arthropleura had it.
What do guys you think?
Edited by DomingoAwesome. Well done. Now to put into the char gen and give to my gm.
I guess that would be for the smaller species. You could drop the Small Size and increase the brawn, damage, and Disorient quality for the bigger version.
Well done.. Looks good
It all depands on what do you want to do with it, ofcourse. How much of a threat should it be, and so on. From the basic "Oh yuck this is disgusting", all the way to the "Lets get the hell out of here"
Personally, I would make the giant version something more scary:
Brawn:2
Agility:2
Intellect:1
Cunning:1
Willpower:1
Presence:2
Soak Value: 3
Wound Threshold: 5
Defense: 1/1
Skills (all at 1): Brawl, Athletics, Coordination, Resilience (maybe even Survival)
Talents: none
Abilities:
Climber: (use Domingo's post)
Vibration Sense: (use Domingo's post)
Equipment/Attacks:
Bite (Damage 4, Critical 4, Range [Engaged], Disorien 1)
Grapple (Damage 2, Critical 5, Range [Engaged]: Ensnare 1) - The centipede is also immobilized until his next action. If the centipede try to Grapple the same target it successfully Grappled previous action, the target defense is considered 0.
...
Soak Value: 3
Wound Threshold: 5
Defense: 1/1
Skills (all at 1): Brawl, Athletics, Coordination, Resilience (maybe even Survival)
...
Interesting twist. I have some points to consider:
-By giving it ranks in the skills, I assume you want to bump it up to a Rival. If that's the case, I would recommend increasing the wound threshold to at least 12 or 15.
-The Grapple attack: What do you envision doing the grapple? The legs or the mouth? Milipedes aren't really constrictors, so I recommend just adding the Ensnare 1 to the Bite attack. I would also forgo adding the defense reduction since being grappled doesn't really negate armor. As a GM you decide if someone has cover and the value of it, and I don't see how that would be applicable to melee. This would make the critter easier to run for the GM (only one attack) and still be pretty scary for a PC.
-Finally without the ability to upgrade checks from multiple Minions, the chances of generating the advantage (let alone a hit) to trigger any of these qualities is pretty slim with a dice pool of YGPP. If this is a Rival, consider increasing the Brawn and/or Brawl as well.
Edited by DomingoWell... yeah, something like that is a Rival in my mind, however, it should be a very simple and easily killed rival. Something as if in between a Rival and a Minion. The way I imagine them is an annoyance that can be easily killed by trained characters (let alone a party of characters), but should still be taken seriously enough to evoid injury or more importantly that it won't hurt an untrained ally.
I don't see them as having higher Brawl (it's a stupid animal that isn't really trained in fighting) or Brawn (it's about as strong as a large dog), however maybe a higher wound threshold (or even higher defense/soak) can be nice to represent some sort of natural armor.
About Grapple, I agree with you, this is a fine way to do it just the same, it's all good ![]()
