What's you best 4 X-wing build (100 points)

By Muz, in X-Wing

So I cant seem to help myself, i just have to fly the X-wing, have been in love with it's design ever since watching Ep IV and even though there are some other fantastic Pilots and Snub-fighters i am constantly drawn back to the X-wing.

I'm looking for inspiration to build some other SQN's that only contain 4 X-wing, does anyone have any builds they can recommend (I generally only play with friends so it doesn't have to be a competitive list)

At the moment I'm running with;

BIGGS, R2-F2, Experimental Interface - to allow for extra green dice and focus

HOBBIE, R3-A2 - to stress those phantoms and get a better bead on them next round

ROOKIE x 2

I have also thought about;

WEDGE

BIGGS

TARN, R7

ROOKIE

BIGGS seems to be a staple for the lists but I'm willing to try something different. Points wise it can be very tight to get 4 X-wing, If only there was a Chardaan refit for the proton torpedo slot..... anyway

Ideas please.

My most successful tournament list is Biggs wedge tarn r7 and cracken with swarm tactics.

Swapping the init bid and cracken for a rookie would probably work fairly well.

I would think it would be slightly worse due to lesser action efficency but it'd be fun.

It's not 'competitive' but it's a decent list.

Here's my Squadron 225 I've called it that because their PS Values are 2-to-5. the runner up name was 425 since it's 4 X-Wings at 25pts each.

Biggs Darklighter — X-Wing 25

Red Squadron Pilot — X-Wing 23
R3-A2 2

Tarn Mison — X-Wing 23
R7 Astromech 2

Rookie Pilot — X-Wing 21
R2-D2 4

----

You can fly them in a flight of 4 around Biggs, or in pairs as other than the Red with R3-A2 they're all relatively "defensive"

My favorite 4 X-Wing list is:

Luke with Swarm Tactics

Porkins with Swarm Tactics

Rookie Pilot

Rookie Pilot

Basically, give each named pilot a rookie and your entire list shoots at PS 8 and PS 7.

I also love 4 X-Wings. I just can't get over how much they rock and since I fly them all the time, I am fairly good with 4 of them.

Man 4 is really hard to do, because every Rookie is just screaming "I COULD'VE BEEN AIREN + SWARM!" The guy just turns them into complete monstrosities.

Cracken with Opportunist and Hull has a near identical stat-line to an X-Wing and is at equal cost to Garven (26). The main difference is PS and Dial. Also Garven has the options of further upgrades on top of his costs.

The question is do you consider Cracken an 'X-Wing' at that point?

I guess i could tear myself away from 1 X-wing for three plus Airen....

I believe any strong 4 X-Wing list has Biggs and Wedge in it. That leaves you 46 points to play around with, either getting named dudes or just adding Rookies and loading up Wedge and/or Biggs. I tend to fly Biggs naked, every point spend on him is wasted as you will not get more then 1 turn of survival out of any upgrade combination added. Better enhance attack power of the other ships to deal as much damage as possible while they are protected by Biggs.

If you stray away from purely 4 X then Airen is a must have in your setup. I use him a lot, and it always paid off having him. He opens up a truckload of options, especially in the close fight situations where you can overlap or cause overlaps with your ships to deny attacks and actions and still hand out an action to a critical spot. Also, since he's "only" flying a Z-95 he is often not deemed dangerous enough to be prime target when you can also shoot a X or B-Wing that has more attack dice (especially if those are in range 1 and Airen's not).

I learned that loading Airen with Swarm Tactics paints a big target symbol on him though, no matter what else I bring on the table with him - too much goodies coming from that one rather fragile source to have him around for too long. I simply don't do it anymore, makes Airen stay around much longer, thus enhancing his use for the squad by far. If you like that Swarm effect put it on another craft (like Wedge or Luke) and see opponent struggle which one to attack when he has the choice.
