Keyan Farlander

By Kepler, in X-Wing

I'd much prefer to have the stress, makes him so much more face-punchy.

To be clear about my point, the way I'm flying Keyan w/o PTL he was probably still getting stressed 2/3 of the firing rounds or more. I was rarely shooting w/o having a stress token.

I´ve been running this list and it works really well!:

Keyan Farlander (39) B-Wing (29), Advanced Sensors (3), Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Jake Farrell (25) A-Wing (24), Chardaan Refit (-2), Outmaneuver (3)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12) x 3

Just going to re-iterate my point that Keyan + Sensors is enough.

While push the limit is great, it's a costly upgrade that you have to think about adding. It does make Keyan much more flexible, but it also leads to some incorrect assumptions about his ability (namely that you have to perma-stress Keyan to make the most out of him).

Ladies and gentlemen, you can work miracles with a B-wing that essentially has no red maneuvers ;) At its simplest, you get a B-wing that flies like an X-wing. At its best, you get an almost phantom-like ship.

The simple trick is getting Keyan into the middle of the table (preferably ringed by asteroids) where his short-ranged red maneuvers will have the greatest impact, and just have him dance (and smack into enemies that would normally have range 1 shots at him). If you don't want to red...just don't do it.

Now if you can afford PTL, I'd personally recommend it very highly on the list

the list reads:

1.) ADVANCED SENSORS seriously, it's the difference between street-rat Alladin and "a whole new wooorrrrrlllldddddd~~"

2.) Veteran Instincts/Stay-on-Target/Push the Limit, points pending

3.) stuff, but preferably spend points on the rest of the squad

Now I usually don't take EPTs, but that's because I like to fly Keyan with 3 Bandits and Predator Wedge :D

I have used Keyan with These:

Advances Sensor, Stay on Target, BWing /e2, Intelligence Agent. Total 36 points

If I fight in close combat against lower ps pilots, I know obviously what they do, and for higuer PS, if one of them is at range 2 or less, I can look at the dial, make barrel roll if necessary, adjust my dial, stress, etc, or even better, if I don´t need to make barrel roll, Target Lock, red maneuver... all you know what happens next. I also use these to block ships like Interceptors, etc, then my other ships end the work.

Yesterday I killed a Whisper with that in a tournament, I managed to put my ship in a flank, the phantom had an asteroid in the other flank, and I also adjusted Ten numb to block him before Decloaking, so he could only decloack in one direction, he shot to an A-wing at range 3 who had focus + evade, he failed, so he was able to cloack, but no focus token, I shot him with keyan at range 1 with target lock and stress, 4 hits, one evade, then Ten Numb fired from range 3 with asteroid, he had 6 defense dies... but I rolled 2 blanks and an unique crit... but is Ten Numb, so no chance to evade that one.

Keyan Farlander - 39pt

- Stay on Target - 2pt

- Advanced Sensors - 3pt

- Heavy Laser Cannon - 7pt

Biggs Darklighter - 25pt

Luke Skywalker - 28pt

- Lone Wolf - 2pt

- R2-D2 -4pt

Run Biggs beside Keyan to protect your investment and chew through enemy fighters and let Luke randomly fly off to Dagobah instead of meeting up with the rest of the fleet

or take a Wedge option with Keyan having Jan Ors as stated above(hooked on Lone Wolf, I think it has real potential!)

Wedge Antilles - 29pt

- Lone Wolf - 2pt

Keyan Farlander - 29pt

- Stay on Target - 2pt

- Advanced Sensors - 3pt

- Heavy Laser Cannon - 7pt

- B-Wing/E2 - 1pt

- Jan Ors - 2pt

Biggs Darklighter - 25pt

100pt

I tried this build last time I played. It worked very well.

Keyan Farlander (29)

PTL (3)

AS (2)

E2 (1)

Kyle Katarn (3)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

E2 (1)

Jan Ors (2)

Jake Farrell (24)

Lone Wolf (2)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

Keyan gets an evade & a stress during his action-movement. Burns the stress on his attack & gets a focus token from Kyle to use on D. I keep the B's & the Z in the rocks, while Jake runs around causing problems.

I have this list, I will try this week and I will tell you:

-Y wing: Duth Vander:

  1. R7-T1
  2. Blaster Turret
  3. Experimental Interface

-B wing: Keyan Farlander

  1. Advances Sensors
  2. Veteran Insticts
  3. Engine Upgrade

- Roark Garnet

  1. Ion Cannon Turret
  2. Recon Specialist
  3. Moldy Crow

The idea is to try to block one of the enemy´s ship with Roark, and therefore also that ship can´t shoot at Roark.

Then Ducth vander moves, use focus and then if possible (and having in mind next turn) use experimental interface to adquire a target lock (making Keyan or Roark also adquire one) and Boost to move around.

At last, move Keyan always the last if possible (giving initiative to your oponnent) specially if whisper is present. When you reach close combat, with the advanced sensors, the barrel roll or the boost action, you can adjust your ship, then reveal hard 1 turns (red) or 2-Koigran (red) so you get the valuable stress.

Then Roark Gives 12 PS to one of the other ships and start the combat phase. This list I think is a good Phantom Killer, whith a bit of luck it can destroy or leave a phantom severely damaged in the first turn even before the phantom can fire
