New Tournament, New Squad. Got to love a PTL Squint!

By SDCC, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Some photos from a game against my Brother last night. Didn't have our 3x4 board so made do with a dining table.
Ben
2 x Tala Squadron (one with Ion Pulse Missile)
2 x Bandit
Corran with R2, FCS, PTL and EU
Me
Soontir Fel with PTL
Carnor Jax with PTL
Bounty Hunter with Ion Cannon and Proximity Mine
Practice for a tournament next month. I'd not played in weeks so was intrigued how it would go. Recently the Interceptor clicked, after months of it being very glass and not much of a cannon!
Ben lays down his Z's on the right of the board (facing me) so I pop the BH down in line with them, hoping to get some use out of the Prox Mine.
The E lines up far left at a 45 degree angle (flashy), whilst Carnor and Soontir line up just left of the centre. Hopefully I can clear him out and then move onto the Z's as he is packing a lot of points.
Everything moves forward first turn but no R3 shots. Ben then breaks two of the Z's off to the left, no doubt hoping to join up with the E and focus down the Squints (he will try!).
I see my chance and drop the mine as the BH turns away into the centre of the board. The resulting Z movement does a nice 2 damage to one of them.
Soontir then moves forward 5 and does a lovely boost and barrel roll to get an R1 shot off on Corran. The force is with him though and he rolls some good green.
On the other side of the board the BH has managed to block one Z and get an R1 rear shot on the other. Woooo.
Sadly however it soon turns into a cluster as the BH, both Squints and Corran bump the almighty out of each other in the middle.
Everyone sorts themselves out. A sweet natural 4 hit roll, plus two crits (both direct hit!), has thinned out the Z's. The E is still doing well with it's greens though. Soontir sets off to go Z hunting. Corran is still evading everything.
The BH makes a daring move over an asteroid (with 1 HP left after getting spanked by Corran), and his bravery is rewarded with a clean roll. Hazaarr!
Sadly however he soon gets taken out, but he did his job so I can forgive him.
The hour ends, and I've got both Squints on the board whilst Ben is still rocking the E (and possibly one Z I can't remember).
Imperial win!!!
Things to note
  • I've finally learn how to fly Interceptors. Sort of. They have to have PTL! Very dangerous as long as I'm not silly with movement.
  • This was the first time I used Carnor and Soontir. I wasn't great at remembering abilities, especially Fel's. Could have helped me out with all the PTLing I was doing. Great to be shooting first though I'm not sure how I'd cope with losing one early.
  • The BH made for a good blocker, and the prox mine gave Ben something to think about when chasing. That rear arc is very handy!
  • Ion cannon was used once and failed. Not sure about it. It has been suggested I tack on Tactician to fill up my remaining points. If I took it off I'd have 5 (?) points? What to do!

If you're looking for something to do with those five points, might I suggest a recon spec on the bounty hunter and a targeting computer on Fel?

5 pionts? gunner ;-)

or tactian on BH and stealth for interrceptor

Hey what about some suggestions for the rebels! :P

Since this game I've moved to replacing Carnor with 2 TIEs which has also worked well. An evolving squad I think.

Tonight I go up against a YT-2400! We'll see how that pans out.

MOAR SQUINTS!

3 x Alpha Sqn (54pt)

Howlrunner + Swarm (20pt)

Turr Phennir + VI (26pt)
