Wave 7?

By Osoroshii, in X-Wing

Its always seemed that FFG has had two product lines in the queue for us to look forward to. With Wave 5 on its way any day now, this only leaves wave 6 left in waiting. I have a feeling we should be seeing an announcement of a new product within the week. The question becomes what wil we see? Will it finally be the Empire Hugh ship(s), an addition to the Aces line up or a full new wave 7? I would be will ing to bet it's Wave 7 with 2 scum ships and 1 ship each for empire and rebels. What says you?

I am seriously hoping the releases slow down. Everyone obsesses over the new and shiny instead of enjoying what's out. Maybe Armada and Rebel Assault will spread it out more this year.

That being said, Imperial epics, the TIE Adv fix, new Scum, and anti-Falcon/turreted big ship fixes are probably the most pressing needs.

There's so much excitement ramped up around Scum, I don't see another announcement coming till Scum hits "on the boat".

I agree that the release cycle should slow down a little, or at least upcoming expansions could be announced not so much in advance maybe? I also suspect that Armada and Imperial Assault could split interest and help spread the releases somewhat.

I think Scum & Villainy is getting enough ships in its own Wave for a while at least. Getting the ships that have been unavailable for months back on the shelves would be more pressing in my opinion, especially the Firespray since having two now seems a given with S&V. I'm of course eager to see what the designers have been hinting about the TIE Bomber and TIE Advanced. Maybe a "minus-cost" card, like for the A-Wing, would be enough for the Advanced. It would need to be at least -3 points though. We'll see eventually! :-)

Wave 7? Hell, I just want Wave 5....not going to even think past S&V right now.

I think FFG realizes that most people feel this way at the moment. Wave 5 getting spoiled so early with the GenCon release took its toll on the community. I managed to snag mine while I was there, but I can't imagine how it would feel to still be waiting.

I wouldn't mind if the releases slowed down a little since my wallet will be taking a beating after armada finally comes out.

FFG has been hinting that there is an anti turret upgrade coming in Scum. This could be the only thing needed to bring the Falcon list down to earth.

I'll cast my vote with the rest of you and ask for things to slow down. Love the game. Even love the spoilers but they are too far out from when we get them. Perhaps only announce things that are already 'on the boat' (read: on the bottom of the ocean awaiting multi-week recovery operation).

My worry is that if they keep this pace, the game will burn bright and burn out. I'd like to see this game played actively 5 years from now and the 'show me what is new' mentality does not encourage that outcome.

A brand new wave is being released next week, and I almost forgot it was happening. This is the first time a new Wave comes out where I am not dying of anticipation. I'm excited don't get me wrong, but we have had it spoiled for so long now, and honestly I'm more excited about Wave 6. I too hope releases and announcements slow down a tad. Let us get our hands on the new stuff, play around with it for a couple of months, THEN drop the next bomb of excitement on us.

I think we will get a non-wave announcement. Probably next month sometime.

This is PRECISELY why I have advocated strongly for FFG to stop all of the spoiling. I would rather just get a few hints, a release date, and then BAM !!! The new product in all its glory, which would allow me to obsess over it for hours on end, getting no sleep, not eating, etc. Just like XMas.

Now, with everything spoiled **** near a half year in advance, by the time I get it, everything seems dull, drab, uneventful, not exciting - just like ugly sweater/tie number 4,655.

I agree with this statement

Yeah I would like to focus on wave 5 and 6 for a while. For next year I'm hoping that Armada and Imp Assault will spread things out a bit but would like to see some imperial epic ships at least.

Yeah let Wave 6 drop, and let us play with it for a while. Let the game breath some!

I think any talk of Wave 7 is going to be interesting, because we don't know the format that it will be.

We have seen waves consisting 4 ships, and 2 ships, but we have not seen a full blown wave that consists of new ships for all 3 factions yet. So could we see a Wave 7 of 3 ships? 1 Rebel, 1 Imp, 1 Scum? I think that would be reasonable. I also think a future wave could have a different number of ships, especially now since we are seeing shared ships. I could also see a 5 ship wave... 1 for each faction, and 2 shared ships, (1 Rebel/scum, and 1 Imp / Scum).

turreted ships don't need fixes

Yes. FIrst things first I want my Decimator and Outrider! Screw wave 6 AND 7...

Not really, but the huge amount of time between Gencon and public release is really maddening. I want the ships I have to fly against! My meta is full of wave 5, so I fly against them all the time, but I want to fly with them from my collection. I'm fine with exclusives if you spend extra money to go to Cons, but why make those that didn't wait 6 months? (if that number is right, it feels like it's been that long.) On the boat BS... if they had it at Gencon there is no excuse.

Rant over... Sorry Guys :)

I do agree that releases shouldn't be so often, nor should they have so many spoilers beforehand. Let us figure it out after the release, not before.

In a way I think it's good that they have released them fast now, but in another I don't.

Let me explain.

It's good because with very few ships to choose from the meta would grow stale.

Now we have a great number of ships and I think they could slow down without hurting the game too much.

Wave 7 announcement after Christmas, maybe the first week of January. But how are these ships going to stem the tide of turrets? Something has to address this.

It totally wouldn't surprise me if FFG announced new product the week after Thanksgiving, considering they like to announce things four to six months out so that retailers have plenty of time to order stock.

(I doubt the announcement will be the week of Thanksgiving — it'll get ignored while people ramp up for the holiday and by retailers preparing for Black Friday.)

Yeah, I think waves from now on will have one ship for each faction. Two for each faction would be too much.

I agree. I enjoy flying Imperial, but with turrets so heavily played, it makes them more unforgiving than riding a Krayt Dragon by his pearls.

To add to my comment on Wave 5....if I wanted a game that put waves out every other month without the time to properly playtest the materials contained within, I'd be playing Star Trek Attack Wing. I actually do not mind FFG taking their time between waves as it gives them the time to catch and correct any errors they might find while playtesting the material, making sure the product is the best they can release.

I can agree with that, but in reference to my rant, they shouldn't selectively release it then have such a long lead time for the actual release. I like the time they give, but their methods could definitely use some tweaking.

Look, they have said that once it gets to shipping across the ocean, it is kind of out of their hands. They did not intend for Wave 5 to be so late, but there is nothing they can do with the port slowdowns.
