Wave 7?

By Osoroshii, in X-Wing

If you don't want to know what is coming out so soon. Don't read the spoilers.

Seriously every new movie in the theatre you are able to read the full plot before you go see it however most people don't ruin the movie that way. No one forces you to read the spoilers. Xwing is no different.

The good news is my wallet feels happy.

The bad news is I have all but forgotten I wanted to be flying some intimidating Decimators around the board by now... : (

This, in principle, is a good idea. In practice, it is impossible, unless I would be willing to no longer access FFG's web site, BGG's web site, any on-line store which sells the product, etc.

It would be the same thing as telling someone to walk around a movie theater, view all of the banners and movie posters, go into each room and stand there while all of the previews show, and not see anything about the movie they want to watch.

I think Sithborg is onto it with the pre-orders. It's a way for FFG to send a signal to stores by way of their customers. Customers ask for pre-orders, stores get a sense of what they need to get and put in orders with FFG and/or intermediate distributors. That way FFG has a sense of how much they need to produce, which they then underestimate leading to shortages on the shelves and a burgeoning market on eBay.

So, while we may not like it, I think FFG is smart to announce some 6 months ahead of time. It helps build buzz and feedback. For my sake, I don't have a problem with it, nor do I really mind it that some people in my environs have their Outriders, while I'm still waiting on my Decimator.

Yeah, I think the releases have slowed considerably from the pace earlier this year if we go by unofficial release dates:

August 2012: Core Set/Wave One soft launch
4 months
December 2012: Wave Two soft launch
8 months
August 2013: Wave Three soft launch
7 months
March 2014: Imperial Aces official launch
1 1/2 months (6.28 weeks)
April 2014: Rebel Transport official launch
3/4 month (3.14 weeks)
May 2014: Tantive IV official launch
1/4 month (1.28 weeks)
May 2014: Wave Four soft launch
2 1/2 months (10.71 weeks)
August 2014: Rebel Aces, Wave Five soft launch
5 months?
January 2015?: Wave Six official launch

I'm not sure that releases have slowed. I think there's more of a cycle to it that speeds up in the summer and is rather slow over the winter. You can read my reasoning here.

Well, the releases this year were supposed to be spaced out better. The original plan seemed to be:

December 2013: Imperial Aces

February 2014: Rebel Transport

March 2014: Tantive IV

May 2014: Wave Four soft launch at Imdaar Alpha tournaments

But Imperial Aces got delayed three months, pushing the huge ships back a couple months, resulting in seven new SKUs reaching players' hands in a span of 10 weeks.

I think Wave Five releasing at GenCon and then not hitting stores until late November (15 weeks later!) really was a misstep as far as causing player discontentment. Only Rebel Aces should have come out at GenCon.

I will be happy if Wave 7 is announced after Wave 6 is released.

To be honest I am hopping for this Imperial Epic Ship. (But I think we might have scum epic first.)

I think Wave 7 has already been announced.

It's on the Asmodee site.

I want to see the receipts

I get why most people are in the camp for slowing the releases down. They have slowed considerably compared to the beginning of the year. The one prediction of wave 7 at Gencon with only 1 aces between then is a little crazy if you ask me. The movie Hype will start in a few short months, and by that I mean for the non Star Wars nerds. Once the marketing campaign starts for the new movie FFG will want to have a few releases to tie in with the movie. It's a rear thing to tie in Star Wars product with a Movie release. If it is all planned out properly we could see the biggest influx of new players into X-Wing ever!!

We may not get Wave 6 until February 2015. If a huge ship or an aces pack comes out after that, it's not crazy to think we might not get Wave 7 until GenCon 2015. That's only a six-month span between February and August.

Which would make Wave 8, "The Episode 7 wave", out in Feb 2016.

True but the one thing the Gen Con prerelease did was show them exactly how high the demand was. They had to go make more and postpone the release date.

I'm going to guess that the Epic ships and Wave 4 came across on the same boats. There is no way they would've planned the Imdaar Alpha unless they were certain about having the product. And they said the Epics were revealed earlier than normal.

I think any talk of Wave 7 is going to be interesting, because we don't know the format that it will be.

We have seen waves consisting 4 ships, and 2 ships, but we have not seen a full blown wave that consists of new ships for all 3 factions yet. So could we see a Wave 7 of 3 ships? 1 Rebel, 1 Imp, 1 Scum? I think that would be reasonable. I also think a future wave could have a different number of ships, especially now since we are seeing shared ships. I could also see a 5 ship wave... 1 for each faction, and 2 shared ships, (1 Rebel/scum, and 1 Imp / Scum).

Ever since S&V was announced I've assumed that new waves would consist of a single ship for each faction.

I believe the massive burst of releases is the result of manufacturing issues: remember there was a release barren time before Summer's massive splurge of releases. I think their plan is to do two non-Wave and two Wave releases a year, that would line up with the SKU sequence.

There's a Wave 5!?!? I thought that was just a rumor!

Wave 7. Xidit themed ships from Asmodee.

<Offtopic> Though I wouldn't mind a runebound reprint based o the world of Xidit </Offtopic>

I prefer to be spoiled as early as possible. I can plan what to buy with full information of what it is. I very much dislike buying things blind to their contents.

If you don't want spoilers, don't read the spoilers...

Well I can only speak for myself but I am sure I'm part of a growing minority that doesnt bother pre-ordering anymore, why would you put your money down 3 months in advance and not get it for 6 months on a consistent basis. Should this trend continue they will only create a false under-demand for the product whereas if they could have the spoiler info and actual release date closer together you might get a more realistic statistic regarding actual demand from the players

In terms of building “Buzz”, Wave 5 has all but fizzled out, as has been mentioned several times in this thread and countless other times on this forum, the hype has gone from wave 5 very few are excited for it to arrive this week, as one poster mentioned many will be getting W5 more out or a sense of obligation more than anything else.

There are already several posts on the forums asking how to deal with the “Meta Crushing” 58Dash (slightly facetious) and technically it hasn’t been released yet.

I would say that I can only hope that the “Merger” with Asmodee (or however you spell their name) can create a more consistent product manufacture and delivery schedule.

If you don't want spoilers, don't read the spoilers...

OR read a single post where somebody who has read the spoilers references their contents, OR glimpse a single post that has an image embedded from said spoiler, OR lay eyes upon a thread with a title like, "Will [sPOILED ITEM] impact game in [WAY THAT IS RELEVANT]?" OR play anybody who wants to playtest spoiled information, OR visit the forum community. Oh, also stop caring about the state of the game or participating in the community.

So yeah, just avoid spoiled information.

Look, I'm just saying don't read spoilers actually requires one not come across any spoiled information. And, if you're reading this at all, you'll have to lose active participation in the game to do it. So that kind of advice is flippant, even unintentionally -- I mean no personal call out. Let's just admit that if you disagree with those who don't like the spoiled info that they have a tough spot and that's too bad. Sympathy, not simplistic solutions.
