Solo deck: Galadriel, Glorfindel, Dunhere

By Tracker1, in Strategy and deck-building

Sure, Dunhere staging area attack decks have been Dun before, but this one features our new hero Galadriel, for keeping threat stationary, and her Mirror for fetching song of Battle and Spear of the Mark for Dunhere if necessary.

Overall the deck is pretty straight forward with a ton of questing WP and dunhere clearing out the staging area of enemies. Once threat is lowered Galadriel will keep it there. Very easy to end a game with 0 threat.

I'll use Galadriel's Mirror nearly every turn, and if a key card is lost I can retrieve with Stand and fight or Dwarven tomb. With the Galadriel ability and the Mirror card draw is pretty good in the deck. The deck has no Resource generation, but that's no big deal, since many cards are 1-2 cost and only nine at 3 cost but three of those can be played for 1 (Celduin Traveler)

Have not play tested it much just on CS, which it destroys. Usually no enemies engage and often end at 0 threat. I'll have to try it on some others, but I'm thinking it should do quite well on scenarios that do not have big boss with low threat at the end.

Here's the deck.

Questions, thoughts, suggestions are welcome.

Looks fun. I might throw it together.

I like the idea, it's original and it looks very fun. It isn't a little hard to rely on drawing first the song, and then the spear? Even with the card-draw of Galadriel... I think it is depending too much on two cards.

In my opinion it's a shame that dunhere belongs to spirit sphere. If it were tactics, it would allow you to play some interesting cards (unseen strike, foe-hammer, goblin-cleaver...), and for your strategy you can't switch one of the other two heroes... you need the threat reduction and card draw from Galadriel, and a hero with high WP...

What about changing Glorfindel for Merry? It gives you direct access to tactics deck at the cost of only 1 threat. Sure you loose 1WP from him, 1 from your Pelargir shipwrighters, and get all the natural problems of a bisphere deck... but... I think it can be worth to try it.

A question: any particular reason not to play Nenya? (I know you must be using Galadriel for threat reduction and card draw... but I always feel that not using Nenya is wasting her 4 WP)

I did not use Merry, because I created a similar Dunhere deck with him and Frodo awhile back, so I felt like it would end up similar and I wanted to stay Mono-spirit. Merry would be fine in the deck, starting threat would be 23, and one Elrond's Counsel away from Secrecy.

I did not think Nenya would be useful in the deck, the first Unexpected Courage will go to Dunhere and the second too. Once Galadriel gets the UC it would be late game and pretty unnecessary, since wp should be in the 20's by now.

Overall she is going to lower threat and draw a card each round. Adding A copy of nenya probably would not ruin the deck, and it could be useful at some point in a game, but it's not a necessity.

And yes the deck does rely on 2 cards for Dunhere to work, but it's the risk that comes with playing this type of deck. Consistency can be a problem.

I can see your points. It often happens to me, different decks tend to be similar and you want to do "something different". Adding nenya could also allow you to splash some Lore cards (maybe master of the forge to fetch for Spears and Song of battle?) Anyways... they could suppose a problem to the resources...

Maybe unseen strike for "boss-fighting" quests ?

Just some ideas, I think the deck looks good as it is right now, and it seems to be very funny to play.

Looks like a very cool deck!

And you say Dunhere decks have been Dun a lot? No matter.. 'cause where have they been Dun? They've been Dun here.

So there.

I think you should at least add :

1 hobbit pipe (with bilbo and so many events to reduce threat) it is important to draw to have big hands for the mirror

Nenya + Asfy as you have a lot of card drawing

You could consider as well Emery for the surprised attack from "when revealed" effect that are so frequent in recent quests

By the way, you cannot retreave the spear if discarded to the mirror which can be somehow disastrous.

But I love the deck ...

I would consider swapping Glorfindel for Eowyn. 4 more threat yes, but more willpower. Then swap the Light of Valinor's for 2x Nenya and 1x Hobbit Pipe as also suggested.
