What is up with the collector numbers?

By alphasquid, in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest

I can't figure out how collector number order is determined, can someone help me out here?

What do you mean with "collector number order"?

A) Warlords are numbered first, starting with SM and going counterclockwise around the alignment wheel (so Sicarus is #1 and Shadowsun is #7)

B) Then all SM cards are numbered in the following order: Signature Squad, Army units, events, attachments, and supports.

C) B is then repeated for each faction, going around the alignment wheel counterclockwise.

D) After the Tau faction, Neutral cards are numbered

F) Then planets

G) And finally, tokens.

Go to cardgamedb, call up the full spoiler list of Core Set cards, then sort by number to see it all played out.

Ok, I get all that, but once you get into the army units, how is collector order number determined between different army units?

Pretty much at random, looks like. It's not alphabetical, not based on cost, not based on loyal/splashable.

Faction based?

Yep. There's no method I can discern. Although, to be honest, it's not like I've spent any real time looking. It may have something to do with the design and development process. And it's not like there has to be an order to it.

Is this just a curiosity thing, or does it matter for something I haven't seen yet?

I suspect it's just curiosity.

It's something which might have bothered me too depending on how I choose to arrange my cards. When I eventually move then from the Core box into a cardboard storage box, I'm not yet sure how I'll do it; possibly by Faction/Loyal/Type, but that'll be a pain to re-arrange as each new set comes out/sets rotate out. I might just do as I do with Netrunner and keep them in order of release; but because of the Loyal/Non-loyal issue that's a little less useful too.

Ultimately it'll probably come down to how I actually identify cards when building decks.

Ok, I've been able to work out that within a faction it seems to go:

Army

Event

Attachment

Support

However, I have no idea within each type what criteria the set number works on.

My sort order is Army, Event, Attachment, Support, with each category sorted by cost. (And signature squads separated out with their warlords.)

And be wary that numbering schemes might change. Netrunner's swapped between runner cards first and corp cards first at least once.

I thought that at first, but it seemed incorrect. I'll go back and look again.

I think he was referring to his own method of sorting rather than the numbering scheme used by FFG in the Core.

The point that the numbering scheme may not stay the same for all Conquest products is well taken. We can state with near certainty that each monthly pack will be consecutively numbered despite having cards from all factions.

In order to make deckbuilding easier, I usually pack the cards like this:

- First the Warlord and the signature cards in order

- Then the loyal cards in order

- Then the rest in order

That way I can easily get the cards I need when buildind a deck =)

Same here to be honest, I also put them back at the cost, for checking the curve of each deck. So far the decks who's curve stops at 6 cost have been the most effective for me, in general because once you go out from your starting 7 you'll need a turn or two to go back up to that ammount of resources again, with the exeption of the core SM hero.
