Favorite Character?

By Fritz40K, in Talisman

We all have our favorite draw- what is yours?

Base game I enjoy the Wizard for his spells, and if all the xps are in play I love playing the Gladiator- the 3+ armor bonus with a re-roll gives him some real longevity, especially when you are down to your last life or two and have to wade through some strength encounters, and of course amassing an army of trained followers to help him battle in combat reminds me of Angron from 40K.

Minstrel

I like the Minstrel and the Valkyrie, probably the most. But I also like the Necromancer - and most other spell-casters in general. As I play the Woodland more and more, I'm looking at the characters that have lots of Fate and also re generate Fate, spells, and other things.

LEPRECHAUN!

Hmm, interestingly I don't have one. In 2nd Ed it was the Monk, but he's been nerfed, so it's not a favorite any more. In general I don't like Craft characters but there are exceptions like the Prophetess, who does happen to be near top of my list.

Dragon Priestess.

Evil and Fate 5.

Starts in Middle Region

Best Pray mechanic in the game.

Ability to troll the table and your opponents by intentionally pulling from dragon deck.

Biggest boobs.

My wife really and very guiltily loves both the Dragon Priestess and the Dark Cultist. It is rather unusual for her; she hates being evil but likes the Fate factor and the special abilities with those 2. She will often choose them when available then find a way to convert to Good.

Still waiting for a game where draw the gladiator, turn neutral or good and then get hold of both the Anointed Robe and the Shield of Faith..

Fav character?

All time: Sprite

Base game: Druid

Good runner ups: Gypsy, Philosopher, Conjurer.

Even though none of them have become an all time favorite I think the characters in general have been increasingly really really good since the Bloodmoon expansion, the Woodlands ones included even though I'm not a big fan (at all) of tokens.

Dragon Priestess.

Hahaa

Even though I'm all for increased ethnic and gender diversification in new characters I'm definitely all in for more salacious, lewd characters :D

The character really promotes table interaction more so than other characters adding a bit of a strategy element. The sad thing is you really need dragon tokens to be used for it to be effective. (You don't need but can really use cultists, which are about 1 card per expansion but loaded in the dragon decks, and you need dragons to either intentionally leave on the table to troll popular locations, or to use as a second, third, fourth temple you can bounce on and off of.)

It's really a shame there are not more characters with a similar strategy aspect. The only other one I can think of is the Spider Queen.

If I was going to a tournament to win, not knowing the format, rules, etc. I would pick the Gypsy.

EDIT: I REALLY like playing strength characters more, but there is no denying how much fun the Dragon Priestess and the Gypsy are.

Yeah this is a heated debate in many video game communities; the objectification of race and gender. It's a long debate that we don't need spoiling Talisman but.. for a second here.

Talisman ----really---- needs a black guy. Or gal. Or both. (And not dressed up like the Zulu!) I don't think we have even one character, stranger, or npc on a spell card, follower, item who is Black. GOT has the summer islanders, Dragon Age has Vivienne, even Warhammer 40k has the Salamanders. (Though the Salamanders is...another one we should not get into :) )

As for big breasted scantily clad women, Talisman is on the other side of the spectrum. You have a couple out there. But they are the exception and not the norm.

Then there is the whole PC argument about weather or not Gypsy is a racist term or not. It's a fruitless argument.

Two of our six players are Black. I'm Latino.

Sorry, end rant ;)

My favourite character is the Cleric. I don't know why but this character makes me feel safe when I play with her, perhaps because she normally won't die during card encounters.

If I'm looking for a win, I'd take the Jin Blooded. I've won 3 out of 3 games that I've played with him.

I don't have a favorite character, it's always a kind of feeling of the day.

For my son, 8years old, it's the troll. He just loves him, and almost always win.

This is a difficult question as many characters I like, i.e. the Tavern Maid, have setup requirements. She needs a small board or many players to work (our games usually have large boards and few players). The Druid is always one of my favourite picks as his abilites are useful in every game.

But two characters I'm really looking forward to draw are, the same ones Warlock mentioned, Cleric and Jin Blooded. I've never tried Jin Blooded but I like his combination of abilities. As for the Cleric I saw her as one of the worst characters ever, until I forced myself to choose her in a game. Amazingly, that was one of my favourite games ever, so I'm really looking forward to have another run with her.

Fritz have you considered doing a "Favorite Ending" as your next video?

Magus.

If You throw its figure, You surely can do some damage to something or someone. Though its character card is so terribly bad that I would kill myself at the Sentinel's Bridge if I drew it.

Magus.

If You throw its figure, You surely can do some damage to something or someone. Though its character card is so terribly bad that I would kill myself at the Sentinel's Bridge if I drew it.

What's bad about the character card?

The Magus is just not that great of a character. The evidence makes it debatable weather or not the forgot to give him Psychic Combat. Top 5 miniature out of the entire line for sure though.

If the Gladiator is so good, why is the Magus so bad? They're basically Strength and Craft versions of each other. The Gladiator has good armor saves and the Magus is a spell cycler.

Does the Magus really need PvP pyschic combat and spell cycling if he gets +1C per follower too? He would put the Wizard to shame. The Wizard's the only character who is a spell cycler and also has PvP psychic combat, but that's because he also has no other abilities.

So yeah I just don't understand the difference between the Gladiator and Magus. A shortage of Craft Enemies doesn't really exist with expansions, and if you have the Dungeon, both the Gladiator and Magus can do the same things...

The Magus is Fate 1 and Evil. (Then again so is the Gladiator, but at least he has 5 Life value.)

The Gladiator has the armor ability.

The Gladiator can use his followers in PVP.

Still more Strength enemies out there. Most PVP is going to be Strength.

I don't think the Magus is horrible, but much like the Ogre and Necro, im taking the Ogre every time. And this is with it more unlikely to see the cards the Ogre wants than the Necro's. (Monsters vs Spirits) and the Necro has Psychic Combat.

The Wizard starts with 2 Spells, has Craft 5 and his cycling is MUCH better. He also has Fate 3.

While Psychic Combat is nice and all it effects a very small proportion of the game; You landing on another character, to start a fight. Though if you have PC, you are more likely to do it. If you give it to the Magus, it may seem like he's stepping on the Wizard's toes, but not really. Yeah both the Wizard and Magus have cycling and PC. The Wizard still has better cycling and stats and the Magus will now start to be downright scary with PC as the game progresses. He still has the risk of losing his PC and losing a follower.

If I was drawing three and drew him and the Wizard, I would still play the Wizard. But if I drew one and it was the Magus, I would be excited to play him, because it puts him more in line with being the "Craft Gladiator."

If the Gladiator is so good, why is the Magus so bad?

The battle occurs more often than the Combat. If the Gladiator has even three Followers, he's a power that cannot be ignored. If the Magus has 50 Followers, all he can do with them is to stick them to his bottom part of his body on his backs.

I am particularly fond of the Tavern Maid and for no other reason than I seem to have an awful lot of fun running around pouring drinks for everyone :D

It's one of those characters that everyone else finds annoying after a while and gives me such mischievous pleasure!

Top three: Amazon, Minstrel and Vampire Hunter. Rapidly approaching favorite status: Spider Queen.

I really like the Druid and the Dwarf. I also have fun playing the characters that have lots of abilities; doomsayer, dragon priestess, grave robber, alchemist... But I cant pic a favorite, all of the characters can be fun if you run good and get the opportunity to play toward your special abilities. My least favorite is Monk, hands down.

My favorite characters are the versatile ones:

- alechemist - master of resource management

- conjurer - board control

- doomsayer - card draw and fate/spell engine

- dragon priestess - fun with prayers

- grave robber - access to a new resource

- leprechaun - gold engine + superior movement

- prophetess - solid spellcaster + great at card drawing

also honorable mention goes to the dervish. Only played him once recently, but after taking 4 turns in succession I fell in love with this guy :D
