I have a 300pt game comming up and my friends CR-90 is giving me all sorts of ship envy, how dare thoes upstart rebels feild a ship thats bigger then mine!
So i've set about prining off templates for a 1/500 and 1/600 scale Vigil and my number crunching puts it at 51cm long for the 1/500 scale and about 40cm for the 1/600. The thing pretty much dominates a quarter of the 3ft x 3ft board. While the 40cm ship looks like it would be easier to play with and implement rules wise.
I think im going to stick with the 1/500 scale the CR-90 this might come back to haunt me but it definatly gives that big dagger shaped ship feel i want from it. The width of the ship might become a hassle its 38cm wide wich if i set up the bases in a line like the CR-90 and the rebel transport might lead to a tipping problem as it has to balance up high on an 8cm wide base.
I really want it to be able to slot into the rules for huge ships as easy as possible so making use of the huge movement template and not having such huge a footprint on the board it runs over all smaller ships when it does thoes turns. While just giving it a large triangle base with three supports might solve the tipping issue it might make things un-fun if it just runs over evey ship in whatever quarter of the board it happens to be in.
Maybe im just over thinking things and the 8cm wide base will be fine when arranged in the way the other huge ships are. Materials wise im going to try a polystyrine foam dagger shape with pannels applyed over the top of it to form the hull.
Im going to try and be as detailed as I can with this project hopefuly have some pic's for you guys soon.
