Double Firespray lists?

By Omnitron310, in X-Wing

Hey guys. A little while ago my friends got me a second Firespray for my birthday, and I've been trying to figure out some good lists that include two. What are your thoughts? Any favorites that you've run in the past? I came up with this one off the cuff:

Bounty Hunter (33)

Recon Specialist (3)

(36)

Bounty Hunter (33)

Recon Specialist (3)

(36)

Captain Yorr (24)

Darth Vader (3)

(27)

Total: (99)

I know the named Shuttle pilots are generally considered lackluster, but a regular doom shuttle left me a few points under, and I figured that his stress absorption ability could be circumstantially useful. Since his job is just to fly forward and ultimately die anyway, taking on a bunch of stress seems like it would be fine. Thoughts?

You might wanna try a two named Firespray list. Something like...

Boba Fett

HLC

Predator

Kath Scarlett

HLC

Predator

Rebel Captive

Or you can swap for Krassis in for Kath and some points saving and take Engine Upgrade by dropping Predator from him?

I do like Double Recon Spec Firesprays with a Shuttle, but I'd really recommend an Engine Upgrade instead of Captain Yorr. My favorite Double Firespray list is double HLCs and Backstabber, with your preferred accoutrement for the last four points. I like to give Backstabber an Engine Upgrade or Stealth Device, but I have had a good time giving the Firesprays Tactictians also. I certainly recommend keeping it down to Bounty Hunters, though, so you can afford a third ship. Double Firesprays without an escort or a blocker are notably weak in the current metagame.

I would love to use Engine Upgrade, but unfortunately the one ship I don't own is the Falcon (still waiting on that reprint :P ).

Also, another popular escort for Double Firesprays is a THIRD Firespray!!

I took 3 Bounty Hunters to a tournament 3 weeks ago and did very well. The amount of hitpoints combined with your double firing arcs makes it a pretty sturdy list.

Ive been playing around with a variety of 2 Firespray builds and i find their biggest weakness is survivability. One usually gets blown up turn 2 or 3, then my remaining one is ends up running away shooting things out its rear arc for a few turns, then dies.

Heres my latest 2 ship list

Boba Fett

-Proton Bombs

-Stealth Device

-Veteran Instincts

-Navigator

Kath Scarlet

-Stealth Device

-Seismic Charges

-Rebel Captive

-Predator

The main reason I put vet instincts on Fett is so that everyone else can finish moving, then I can use Fett+Navigator to avoid bumps or arcs( FAQ says that is I choose a bank maneuver on my dial, when I reveal it, I can change the maneuver to any bank of any speed). It also helps with proton bomb, but that just an added bonus. I would love to put engine upgrades on this, but like you, I cant find a Falcon anywhere and I'm not paying more than retail price

i have used these two lists in the past and they have done quite well:

Bounty Hunter, Ion Cannon, Tactician

Bounty Hunter, Ion Cannon, Tactician

Sabre Squadron, PTL

or:

Bounty Hunter, Tactician

Bounty Hunter, Tactician

Soontir, PTL

You should try proxying a new scum list with double firesprays. I am finding them to be much more fun than the imperial options and it may be my new tournament list when scum comes out. I tried this out over the weekend and had a blast:

Kath Scarlet

Predator

Seismic Charges

Recon Specialist

Inertial Dampners

Emon Azzameen

Andrasta

Seismic Charges x 3

Gunner

Inertial Dampners

Engine or Shield Upgrade

99 points and crazy explosive combat.

I have run 2 bh with gunner and a basic doom shuttle in the past and it worked very well for me. I love the surviveabilty and rear arcs advantage. Never have to kturn. The shuttle takes some getting used to tho.

Are you stealing my list?? lol I have used this exact list for quite awhile now, and have had great success with it. I think i've played 50-60 games with it and have won about 70-75% of the time with it.

I usually fly that Boba with Rebel Captive and Rexler Brath with Predator and HLC.

soontir fel ptl hull? 99

My goto list is:

Bounty Hunter 33

Bounty Hunter 33

Turr Phennir 25

Royal Guard Tie 0

Hull 3

Stealth Device 3

Outmaneuver 3

100

I see two named firesprays as something that will pick up in popularity after wave VI is released

Double Firesprays without an escort or a blocker are notably weak in the current metagame.

Could you elaborate on this? I'm reluctant to dilute my two Firesprays with something else. What exactly does the additional ship at the cost of Firespray upgrades add to help the Firesprays, and how do they take advantage of it?

Take any 2 firesprays list to a tournament and you'll see what he means. 2 upgraded firesprays or 2 upgraded Firesprays and a TIE or Interceptor are really going to struggle. You'll likely never get a shot against a phantom, swarms will focus fire one down with two turns unless your green dice are hot, decent Falcons or Outriders will arc dodge and always get to shoot at you. I love Firesprays, but running a 2 ship Imperial list in a competitive environment will not do well most of the time. Hopefully Scum will change this, but even then i think people are still going to lean towards Firespray with Z swarm

Like I said I've done pretty well with just the two 'sprays. I actually have a very good track record against phantoms. Having a predator backed HLC attack or two can take them down pretty quick - cloaked or not. Fat falcon/decimator lists have given me the most trouble, but then they do for most lists anyways. I realize it's not a perfect list, but it is pretty strong, and more importantly, it is fun as hell!

I would probably say 2 Empire ships in ANY situation is quite dangerous. The Firespray isn't THAT beefy when you're facing TIE Swarms, Falcons, XXBB, Phantoms, Interceptors, etc, basically any list with a lot of attack will clear quite easily for this reason: you don't have the defense to absorb it, and you can't afford to block because you can't EVER afford to lose an attack. First of all, if you take one of the named pilots, and I am in the crowd that thinks both Imperial Boba and Kath have their place, only take 1 Firespray. They are simply too expensive to ever make taking a second one worthwhile. Next, if you take 2 Bounty Hunters, DO NOT upgrade them extensively. They are already pricey, they fold easily to focused fire, and your opponent will run away with the points if he clears one. I like to run Double Firesprays with Heavy Laser Cannon along with Backstabber outfitted the way you like (I prefer an Engine Upgrade). This way, you most often have 3 attacks that roll 3-4 dice all the time. Move slowly with the Firesprays and keep them close together, while flanking with Backstabber. Also, against dangerous ships that are highly durable or ships that rely on their actions, IE other Firesprays, Falcons, Phantoms to a degree (but they are hard to block with 3 ships), use Backstabber as a blocker. Get in that Falcon's way as much as you can to stop his actions and keep him AWAY from you. Two four dice attacks at Range 3 without his buffed defense from Range will deal significant damage to him, even after C3P0, and will give your Firesprays a third agility. Then get REALLY close, but don't block, and clean him up at Range 1.

They also LOVE Recon Specialist, but again, keep their upgrades to a minimum. Give them Recon Specs and flank with Turr Phennir, or give yourself a Doom Shuttle with an Engine upgrade to increase your overall durability while keeping a third attack most of the time. The Auto Damage from Vader will certainly help counter the fact that you only get two attacks.

Honestly, I'd rarely consider running fewer than 4-5 ships in the Empire, and this is from a primarily Empire player. However, I have done very well lately with 2 HLCs and Backstabber.
