It's a non-canon internal thing of LEGO's. It is indeed based off the E-wing.

The E wing never made sense to me, as it is just an upgraded X wing, that looks just a little like an X wing.. yeah the fuselage looks similar, but not quite.. I may just give my 2 Ewings a wash of either sepia, or black to give them something different and unexpected.. lol.. I'm in the camp of it being kinda ugly... and a little viper-ish ala BSG. I can see Starbuck flying it... lol

"Screw you" is probably not the best way to garner sympathy for your love of the E wing.

I've seen some really nice designs for one, and the one we got from FFG isn't the best.. its blocky and non-Starwars-y looking.. the one in your picture also looks better than the one we got, any art which shows it more sleek and angular is gonna be a nicer looking one..

Wasn't meant to be actually insulting, just some friendly vitriolic debate.

The engines look like they will shear off the wings at any moment.

The top laser cannon, the worst thing about the ewww-wing, would present so many problems. The barrel seperates from the base every time the cockpit opens. That would present issues. Damage to the cockpit could result in the laser cannon being misaligned. Not to mention maintenance issues. A design like that could present a number of problems, and a weapons failure mid battle could result in a pilots death.

If the cannon was similar to the turret on the y-wing, it wouldn't be so bad looking.

Then there was the astromech issue. It required a specific astromech and was not compatible without a complete retrofit.

Now, the clone wars show showed the r7 astromech long before it was supposed to be invented - so that means it, according to canon, is not created for the e-wing, or that e-wings are a clone wars era design.

Furthermore with the new movies Dark Empire has, very likely, not happened. There are even rumours of no new republic in the movies.

X-wing draws fighters from the rebellion era, so far, so it could be construed as not being a new republic designed craft.

Well it is what it is, I'll just sub in white blocks and tweak a few things.

I think the E-wing looks ok. just don't like the cannon over the cockpit. would look cooler if the Cannon was on the underside. as for it looking like a viper from BSG. nah the Vipers look waaaaay better all versions of them. And I love how they tied in the old vipers with then MK7s.. Hopefully JJ will do something similar. I really didn't mind the remake of Trek. I wasn't a huge fan of TNG movies. but liked TNG shows just thought the movies were like expensive shows.actually some of the shows i liked better than some of the movies. I am getting tired of the rehashed story lines as in the last movie. but the new "Bad guy" ship don't know the name was pretty cool.. anyway its like 3:30 and i am WIDE awake. The cockpit doesn't slide forward, the cannon swings to the side, and in the case of ejection, the cannon pops off.

As to the cannon being blown off, just one more thing to go wrong. I think the russians tried to rig a system for a helicopter ejection system where the blades were blown off. It was scrapped because the timing was never right.

I will say this.. of all the ones I have seen, and I have seen this one before.. this is the best, this just looks sleek and awesome. I wish we had these for our game.

actually on the AH-64 the rotor blades explosively detach.. on the others they "Expect" to auto rotate to a soft landing... yeah right. that's why most copter pilots must have a tie fighter mentality to fly them.

The cannon is attached to the canopy and blows off with the canopy. Your own pictures show that.

Love this, finally turned the E-wing into something that looks right.

And it has always amused me that the rebel fighters are named and look like letters from the english alphabet ( vaguely..)

But the text in the movies look nothing like the letter they are replacing...
