Define 'Fat'

By AnsibleTheta, in X-Wing

A couple threads I've read lately have left me questioning my own understanding of the word as it pertains to X-wing.

I was operating under the premise that a "fat" ship is built for enhanced defensive capability with as many points spent on upgrades as necessary to achieve this enhanced defense result with minimal concern for overall squad point efficiency.

However some things I've read lately would seem to suggest the "fat" simply means crossing a certain threshold in the ratio of base ship cost / upgrade points spent on the ship, or crossing a threshold in total squad point cost which varies from ship to ship based on which model it is.

I thought what made a Fat Falcon "Fat" was the C3P0+Title combo for improved durability, not the fact that after also adding in offensive upgrades its total cost ranged from high 50s to low 60s. Am I mistaken?

I ask the community to weigh in so we can come to a consensus on how to appropriately use "Fat" in future X-wing discussions.

P.S. Some people have been calling Theorist's 58pt Dash "Fat Dash" or "SuperDash" but I like MAD Dash, as in Multiple Action Dependency... or Multiple Action Design. Plus, Mad Dash sounds cooler to me :)

I've just read it as 'maxed out'.

As in you're using most of the available options for it and it takes up a big chunk of a 100 point death match list.

Whereas stripped or naked to me is just the bare pilot card with no upgrades.

I dont think we really need to define it do we?

I would say that taking up the majority of the upgrade slots possible to preserve that large point investment is considered "Fat". If you pretend that the YT-1300 doesn't have the missile slot (few do use it) most "fat" builds fill up most of the remaining slots (title; EU mod; 2 crew, usually gunner/luke + C3Po; EPT).

I like MAD Dash too...as a naming convention. The ship itself doesn't strike me as a fun option to play against.

Yeah fat just means you've spent a ton of points on that ship

"FAT" I think is when a ship is loaded to the max. Seems to be the in thing at the moment (or at least the few hours)

So does that also mean a guy like me loaded with 20kg more then I should be the in thing also? :P

It's not really a term that has an exact definition in this context but essentially it is the act of putting a lot of points into upgrades on an already expensive centerpiece ship like the falcon. Now this is just my own interpretation here, but I think use of the term "fat" also includes the notion that the extra upgrade points you are putting into the ship actively contribute to enhancing the ship's strengths and countering its weaknesses in such a way that you really make that ship worth the massive points investment.

Loading up every slot on a tie bomber or filling a lambda with crew, HLC, and system upgrades can be just as much of a point sink but doesn't really enhance the actual strategic value of ship the same way a fat falcon build does.
