'Fat' Porkins

By stevensonson, in X-Wing

Seeing as how every ship and their Mother is getting a 'Fat' build right now, I think we shouldn't forget the original 'Fat' guy. The guy we all fell in love with, the guy who we demanded FFG include, despite having about 4 lines of dialogue, the one and only 'Fat Porkins'

Jek Porkins - 26 Points

-R5 D8 - 3 Points

-Elusiveness -2 Points (not quite as awful as you might first assume, although it is pretty bad)

-Experimental Interface - 3 Points

34 Points total.

The reason I'm saying Elusiveness isn't as bad as it normally is is because you can use it as long as you have no stress, and Porkins can remove stress as soon as he gets it. So he could theoretically use it against an entire Tie Swarm, though I wouldn't ask Porkins to make 6 Stress removal rolls.

And YES, I KNOW that this isn't as good as most (if any) 'fat' builds, I'm just giving my favorite X-wing Pilot one, because he deserves one more than anyone.

While I like the use of EI on him I think I'd prefer Hull over EI. Although you're losing out on Focus or Target Lock + R5D8 the extra hull will save you from unlucky rolls.

Yeah, I was originally going for Hull, because it has the added benefit of not stressing the poor guy out anymore than he needs to be. But I went with EI because I thought the flexibility of two actions when he might need them (to help maximize offense/defense, as well as not having completely wasted your action if D8 fails) outweighed the extra HP.

He only gets 1 offensive action. EI requires the second action to have the Action Header on an upgrade card.

He's Porkins. He can make as many offensive actions as he likes.

Oh.... you mean in the game. My bad.

Here's my Fat-Wing squad

Wes + R2-D2 (33)

Porkins + R5-D8 + Elusiveness + EI (34)

Luke + R5-P9 + Lone Wolf (33)

All 3 ships regenerate. Wes helps make Elusiveness a little better by stripping focus tokens. Luke is very tough late game with his ability + Lone Wolf.

My default Porkins build is R5-D8 + PTL + Engine Upgrade, sometimes with a Torpedo for nyuks.

Elusiveness can only be used once per combat, it is in the faq

My fat porkins I've been using is Porkins, R5-D8, Hull Upgrade, PTL. As long as you do the droid action first you can do action bar action off PTL. Majority of the time though he is doing Focus, TL and droiding the next turn if he hurts himself.

No, I'm not talking about using it to reroll all 3 dice, I'm using it to reroll 1 dice from all the attacks he gets that round. So if a Tie fighter in a Howl Swarm rolls two hits, I can make them reroll that hit and Howlrunner can't re-reroll it.

Fat Porkins ...

of course.

You got it!

R5-D8 still seems like a waste of points when you're almost as likely to negate its advantage with Porkins' ability as you are to trigger it

Porkins to me needs that 4 hull, with his repair droid buddy.

This would be my goto build if I ever run Porkins again. I've used him once, and he easily made MVP in that match. Ran him alongside Keyan with PtL and Kyle crew, and Jake Farrell with some upgrades I don't remember.

My Porkins is fat even without any upgrades.

Just use my House Rules for R5-D8 with Porkins, and he is actually good. :D

R5-D8

  • Card text now reads: Once per turn, after you remove a stress token, you may discard 1 of your facedown Damage cards.

R5-D8 FAQ:

  • If removing a stress causes multiple effects to trigger simultaneously (like triggering R5-D8 with Porkins' ability), then the player may chose which order to resolve the effects. Effects with the timing immediately must be resolved before R5-D8.

I believe Porkins' ability says he doesn't take the stress at all? The R5D8 mod doesn't seem all that helpful, considering he would have to ignore his ability for a turn to restore a hull.

Though I guess it is guaranteed...which has its benefits.

I'm amazed and disappointed no one has posted this yet. I CAN HOLD IT!

One application i've considered with porkins is stress bot and engine upgrades. My memory may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that porkins with VI is the rebels cheapest option if they want 3 attack dice and ps9 for chasing highly maneuverable ships. I usually just pay the extra 2 points for wedge in that situation, but I think he'd perform that role adequately.

When you receive a stress token, you may remove it and roll 1 attack die. On a

result, deal 1 facedown damage card to this ship.

Here is a fun Rebel Aces flavored Jek Porkins build I have been dabbling with:

36 Jek Porkins, PTL, R5D8, Engine

39 Keyan Farlander, PTL, Adv Sens, Engine

25 Jake Farrell, Outmaneuver, Chardaan Refit
