I Really Hope We See...

By Corellian Corvette, in Star Wars: Armada

Yea... That is definitely a worse case senerio... Still not as dangerous as Han makes it out to be... There are plenty of senerios that a ship could survive. Not possible given Solo's description.

Of course that still leaves us with the Detainer issue ;-)

I don't know what it'll be for in-game, but it should have a pretty cool mission.

Well the ship is canon... the same can't be said of several of the other ships available in the first wave. Unless their mentioned in the novels and I haven't heard about it yet :-)

At any rate I agree, they will undoubtedly release the Immobilizer and I have no doubt it will be very cool!

You don't think the 1980s cartoon 'Droids' is Canon?? Jeez, next you'll be saying that the Holiday Special is apocryphal.

Why are lots of people saying the Imperial class will be "x-wing corvette" sized or anything like that?

It's inevitably going to be in scale or near the Victory, so it'll be just under twice the length of that. Maybe 6-8 inches, tops (and i'm guessing more 6 than 8). The 15" model is just so far off base in scale with the existing ships, it'd like insane.....an Imperial class is only about 5 times the length of a Nebulon-B (a shade more), it's not THAT big.

I suspect a lot of people are setting themselves up for disappoint on this one.

Personally i want Dreadnoughts.

The Interdictors' gravity wells were also used in an "offensive" capabilty by Grand Admiral Thrawn.

By using the gravity wells to pull in ships into real space, the Grand Admiral was able to flank rebel ships with Imperial ships "micro" jumping from outside the area of combat into close proximity to hammer down the rebel ships.

The reason we hope is just because it would be cool. Is that so unfathomable? I just recently built a 15" ISD model from the '80s. It'd be awesome to use it in the game.

Yeah Ackbar later used that trick after Thrawn was dead. He was respectful enough to name it after Thrawn though.

Mikael,

I actually laughed out loud when I read this... nice!

Mikael,

I just recently built a 15' ISD model from the '80s. It'd be awesome to use in the game.

Agreed, but when they release one I am hoping for somewhere between 8 and 10 inches... depending on how big the victory is. I am trying to create my fleet based off of the scale of the victory which to me is the coolest ship so far. The 15 inch ISD will probably be closer to the scale of the corvette... still super cool!

Yeah, do we have any good estimate on how big the Victory is? Near as I can tell it's already 5 inches long. If so, it would be in proportion to the Victory at 8.89 inches. With a sliding scale, 8 inches would be reasonable, I think. You obviously wouldn't be able to fit the Corvette into its hangar bay, given that the Corvette looks to be about 2.5-3 inches long, but it would be acceptable.

I can get corvettes at 1.4 inches from shapeways... I plan to, once I have purchased the game and am sure that they are smaller than the one provided. As far as the Victory is concerned I have read (somewhere on this forum) that it is approximately 4 inches in length. The person who made the estimate was clear that he was guessing though.

I'll stick with my guess of 5 inches, just based off how large it looks in comparison to the 2.5x3.5" cards that it's pictured with, and in comparison to the box. But, that's also just a guess, given that we don't know how much of that is Photoshop or just bad angling and guesstimating on my part.

Yea... I don't think anyone will know for sure until someone gets their hands on the game. Until then its all guesswork.

I was just thinking about the 5 inch Victory estimate... that actually works better for my 1.4inch corvettes! but it would make the regular SD bigger to stay in scale. I still think 8 to 10 inches would make for an excellent sized SD.

Next gaming Con someone needs to take a tape measure with them!!!

I saw it from a distance of about 6ft, and it looked about 4-4.5 inches. Take that for what you will...hardly an exact measurement, but it wont be too far off.

Btw, for those that REALLY want small corvettes and frigates closer to being in scale, look here:

http://starshipmodeler.biz/shop/index.cfm/product/551_40/110000-nebulon-b-class-frigate.html

I have some of these myself from way back. Nice models, but very small. However, they may hit your "closer to true scale" needs.

For reference, measured mine and got the following (i can post pics later if you want):

Corvette; 17mm

Nebulon-B: 30mm

Interdictor/Enforcer/Vindicator: 60mm

I also have a 90mm Victory and a 120mm Mon Cal cruiser from the same manufacturer.

i will NOT be using the corvettes and frigates....they would look ludicrous on the Armada bases. I may however pressgang the bigger ships :)

Edited to add: The Nebulon-Bs are the most horribly fiddly models i've ever found to build. They are EXTREMELY spindly, and come in 4-5 pieces each even at this size (Forward hull, spar, rear hull, antenna....and maybe something else, i forgot).

I had some of those models... I sold them on ebay a while back... they were excellent little ships, but as you said kind of a pain to build and mount. For my purposes those models are just a bit too small. I have plans to use 1/2 inch shuttles and smaller ships like the Imperial shuttle, Falcon and Slave 1. The 1.5 inch Corvette works relatively well with those, and the fighters from Armada look like they should fit in nicely with those ships as well. The Nebulon is probably a little too big but I think I can live with that. And lets face it... the Victory is just awesome :-)

I guess actually I could mount 2-3 corvettes on a base and use them as a squadron. Dunno if I can be bothered, but we'll see!

I like the idea of a corvette squadron!

It would look pretty good...2-3 small ones on individual pin stands on the base.

And then came the Imperial Raider... I would love to see that ship In armada soon... A small anti fighter craft for the Imperials should be welcome :-)
