Silvan & Noldor 2 Handed

By jjenks476, in Strategy and deck-building

This 2 handed deck has beaten all of VOI and Ring-Maker Cycle, & Khazad-Dum NM so far.

Legolas, Celeborn & Sam is the deck in charge of pumping out ranged SIlvan allies and shooting like mad over to the other players side. Willpower is also pretty high with Sam and Celeborn questing every turn for 6.

The other deck has more variety. Elrond, Galadriel, & CORE Glorfindel. The starting threat is pretty high but with Elrond's Council, Island Amid Perils, and Galadriel's ability it's not too dangerous. The deck worked fine with Beravor or Mirlonde instead of Glorfindel, but not having access to Asfaloth was making things rough. Plus since Elrond is the main defender and my only healing abilities came from Silvan tracker and Lembas, I was struggling to heal Elrond without Warden of Healing which I refused to use because he wasn't thematic. Also Glorfindel's healing combined with Elrond's response means I can heal 2 damage off anybody whenever needed which is pretty powerful. I am going to run these decks against the HoN next to see how they fare. I may switch around the hero's so that Galadriel is with the tactics deck so the Silvan archers can quest and attack. For resource generation I use Tighten Our Belts which is an awesome card, and Gathering Strength for Legolas. These were really the most thematic resource gen cards I could abide.

Overall I am greatly enjoying the Silvan archetype and so far have not really come across anything that is not beatable after minor adjustments.

I know why you used Sam, but it's a thematic fail. Sorry.

No other Silvan or Noldor heroes for leadership but Elrohir so yeah...

What if you used the twins instead of Legolas and Sam?

Thought about it but I would have had to include more ranged and threat reduction cards. This deck has gone through several evolution's in heroes trying to find combos that still work or make the deck better. Like at first I though Glorfindel core might ruin the deck by taking out Beravor but it has actually performed better. So I will definitely try the twins next and see how it works. Overall I love this Silvan deck probably my favorite I have ever built.

Started to put these together... No Vilya for Elrond?

You don't really need it honestly. Since Elrond is the primary defender and there are not a ton of readying effects I prefer to have him and his burning brand canceling shadow effects than using vilya. Especially since I would only really want Vilya if I was using Stargazer. It was just too many cards.

I'm putting together my own version, but using your lists as a framework. I'll post it after I run it a few times for debugging. I'm basically putting my Elrond Mirlond Spirifindel deck in one hand and Celeborn, Galadriel and Haldir in the other. I will be using Vilya and UC in the Elrond deck. My original Elrond deck had a lot of Silvan allies which are getting shifted over to the Celeborn deck for recursion. At the moment I am limiting myself to 3 copies of any card total, but might break down and include more copies of Test of Will.

I found that Elrond in a Silvan deck really doesn't want Vilya, unless you put in loads of readying, since he's a great hero for smoothing out the lower stats of the Silvans generally. Never thought I'd drop what seems like such a powerful card, but those two resources to play it are often better spent elsewhere with Silvans, even if Vilya can drop allies into play.

Perhaps. Are you guys limiting yourself to one Core?

Not in my case (at least I proxy some major cards from the core). Readying effects, or LoV on him makes him more versatile, but LoV is in another deck right now, and I'm trying to wean myself off UC, and it made me use him more like a normal hero. I like the guide that allows heroes to quest without exhausting though. Very nice with Elrond around.

In my decks, I only tend to use Elrond as the main defender for early attacks. Later, Silvan Tracker and Celeborn tend to be better since they can be healed and Arwen can boost their defense. I have Vilya around because I do have some decent readying and it's just fun to use, but I don't tend to use it in the early game because Elrond needs to defend early game. I think Vilya is also useful just for giving him the Spirit icon. But, you're right: the decks don't tend to NEED Vilya.

I include Vilya on Elrond - he's my primary (ideally sole) defender in one deck (Celeborn in the other). Early on vilya often gets ignored as I really need Elrond more as a defender. (Decks listed in Two-handed decks). So I don't think that Vilya is essential and I have considered dropping it... except I find the spirit resource helpful ...and in more than one game I would have lost without it. (Games where Tree People and O'Lorien don't show up or where all your allies get culled, and you need to get them back quickly)
