Some hero advice

By punkmonkey25, in Strategy and deck-building

Hey all,

I'm going home for thanksgiving, and I'm looking forward to getting in some good LOTR play with friends and family. I have to build a deck, but I haven't played in a while. Many of the heroes are taken, but I know these options are still available. I'm looking at the following options for heroes...

Gandalf

Frodo

Pippin (BR)

Gandalf

Frodo

Merry

Similar option, but looking more at tactics cards. Maybe eagles.

Gandalf

Galadriel

Pippin (BR)

Gandalf

Galadriel

Beregond

Which do you think would be the most fun, and do well in multiplayer environments?

I would definitely want to have a powerful defender on the table, so if no one is running one, Beregond is probably your best bet. If you can use Arwen and maybe some other defense boosting, then Frodo isn't terrible, but his special ability can only be used once per phase, so he can't necessarily be the defender for everyone, even with a bunch of readying.

Without trying to solve the riddle of the whole table, having some threat reduction in a Gandalf deck is a good thing. You'll get even more of you have Galadriel because then you have access to Elrond's Council. But her starting threat makes it a trade off. Still that's a combo I've been thinking about,

Thanks for your advice. I'm pretty sure all of our elronds councils will already be used. However, there may be some galadrim greetings available, and there are definitely smoke rings available. Beregond has potential, but I'm afraid my starting threat will be too high. But I think the go for shield and gonforian dicsiple would be awesome for him.

Galadriel's ability allows you to lower someone's threat every round, so after 2 rounds of using it on yourself, she offsets her threat compared to Frodo, and she has given you 2 cards to boot. If you are playing with some strong heroes (Gandalf and Beregond), then your starting threat won't be a big factor because they can handle the enemies coming your way. If you have some ranged characters around the table, then you'll definitely be fine. 33 threat is not a huge issue when you're running spirit because Galadriel and Galadhrim's Greeting can lower it.

Flame of Anor, Behind Strong Walls, and Unexpected Courage should give you plenty of readying to allow Gandalf to quest and attack and keep Beregond up and defending for everyone.

I guess the main problem of Galadriel is it's lack of contribution to questing or combat until he gets it's ring. Even with a great ability, you are "loosing" it's 4 WP until you get Nenya, which is a great drawback in quests that start with lot of pressure in the staging area.

Anyways, as you are planning to play multiplayer this can be mitigated by other players...

Don't underestimate Galadriel...

> new allies that quest and are still ready to do something else... so early on you don't need to hold back your new allies in case you need to defend as your newly put in to play ones can.

> being able to wait and see if you need to add 4 will power or not (Once you have nenya)

> consistent threat reduction and card draw

Ps she isn't a he!

Oups, of course SHE is not a HE. Lol XDDDD

English it's not my first language, so my posts will be full of errors... so sorry :S
