Hide behind the wookie

By Cptnhalfbeard, in X-Wing

So I was thinking about the potential uses of Tactical Jammer and realized it has limited application because typically your opponent would just fire at the large ship rather than one past it. But what if Biggs was hiding behind it? They would have to fire at him through the large ship. Threw this together kind of quick, wondering what you guys think:

Chewbacca — YT-1300 42

Tactical Jammer 1

Biggs Darklighter — X-Wing 25

Stealth Device 3

Wedge Antilles — X-Wing 29

Chewie, being the cheapest named falcon seemed a solid choice, but I was toying around with lando/Han. Biggs would just have to start next to chewie at 45/90 degree angle to him and do a bank/hard turn on the first move to get behind him. Biggs would have 4/5 agility depending on the range which should give him some serious survivability. What do you think?

I think that body guard shouldn't be scum only.

Replace Wedge with Garven, R6, V.I. for 28 points and you can fire him at PS8 and pass Biggs that focus token for even more survivability.

pretty sure Biggs is exactly why it's scum only

I've done similar ideas in Epic. It works well.

Personally, I'm debating using it with a BlockORS, instead of the more traditional APL.

Outer Rim Smuggler

+ Intelligence Agent

+ Navigator

+ Tactical Jammer

Biggs Darklighter

I'm not even sure you need Biggs. BlockORS prevents at least one enemy from firing on the YT, but they'll usually have arc to something behind it. I really like collisions as a preventative mechanism to keep the big ship alive, though.

In that vein, I've been practicing with a Decimator list like so:

Oicunn+Determination+Navigator+IA+Mara+TacJam+Dauntless

BSP+Wingman x2

BSP+DTF

Generally speaking you get a point of damage out of Oicunn every turn, he's stressless in time for the next, and Mara stressbombs at least one ship. Between DTF and Determination the enemies that /can/ shoot at Oicunn get minimal crits. It's really easy to fly since everything's PS4, dodges Predator, and shoots before most of the swarm lists that could speedily kill a Deci.

I see the falcon as not as good a meat shield as the Decimater. but had not thought of the Biggs equation...

better yet Biggs as the imperial captive!!!

Oh. Gods. I feel a scenario coming up.

I had been kicking around a similar idea as the OP-- more for the fun of what would it take to keep Biggs alive.

The idea is to keep Biggs behind the ORS and then focus +R2-F3 each turn. Kyle could throw a focus and take his stress, with Jan optionally changing a focus to evade. Rolling 3-5 green dice each turn with 2 focus or 1 focus+1 evade. May stay alive long enough to whittle down the opponents.

Here's the version I'm going to test out.

Chewie + C-3PO + R2-D2 + DTF + MF + Tactical Jammer

Biggs + R7

Cracken + Swarm Tactics

You Run Biggs behind Chewie, and Cracken Gives Biggs a TL so he can use R7 for defense if needed or to help put out damage. Chewie can draw crits away from Biggs, and can now heal them with R2-D2. If you can get Chewie to the end game against 1 ship with a 3 or less attack dice, then chewie can't be killed. I think about dropping Swarm and R7 for R5-P9 and VI. I'll have to test both.

I tried Biggs with Chewie + DTF + Tac Jammer, and was rather disappointed. The main problem was this: for the setup to work well, Chewie needs to stay between the enemy ships and Biggs. If your opponent flanks you, you need to send Biggs wide around the other side, and he just couldn't keep up that turning radius. Once they start to drift, it's much easier for enemy ships to either get a clear shot on Biggs, or a shot on Chewie without Biggs being in range of the attacker (if Biggs is even close enough to Chewie for his ability to activate anyway).
