help me choose next quest

By stainless, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi everyone

wow it's my first time to post anything here. I've been reading a lot here.

here is the situation. I'm the OL and we are in the Act II of SoN. I've won the first quest "Overdue Demise" Now I need to choose second quests between "Into the Dark" and "Widespread Panic".

As OL, I have Basic I deck and I've been building "Shadowmancer" cards. and I have access to pretty much all monsters from every expansions (expect a couple of small boxes and Hero and Monster collection boxes).

As heroes, they are super annoying.

Logan Lashley - Shadow Walker (the untouchable shadow is just op)

Tetherys - Wildlander

Andir Runehand - Disciple (hero ability is just the definition of annoying)

Pathfinder Durik - Beastmaster (wolf is just another hero)

Any of those quests "Into the Dark" or "Widespread Panic" seem favours hero. I don't see any glimmer of hope for winning. That's why I need some advice.

Which quest would you guys choose? with what monsters? and what strategy would you have in mind?

Thx

I faced this exact choice not long ago (though the hero party was different.) To me, Widespread Panic looks like an easy win. Encounter 2, as long as you pick the right influence effect seems heavily OL favored to me. I chose to play Into the Dark (I wanted to steal the Shadow Plotter back from the heroes,) and I lost pretty solidly. Granted, I didn't play the quest as well as I could have- I used a poor strategy with the torches/influence effects but I think Widespread Panic would have been easier. The heroes were able to keep me from EVER reinforcing in "unlit" spaces, by staying in lit spaces for literally the entire encounter. It was brutal.

And which influence in your opinion favors the overlord?

I too have some questions regarding the second encounter of "Widespread Panic".

Can Heroes heal the wounded citizens? And if Vera is corrupted, can wounded citizens move through heroes?

Heroes cannot healed wounded civilians. They are attacked "as if they were heroes," but for every other purpose they are not treated like heroes.

It depends on how encounter 1 goes, but as long as the OL can summon a few changelings with tokens, making Vera corrupt seems like the obvious way to go. Use the changelings to protect Vera, use Vera to move the villagers (one call is 3 spaces for ALL villagers). Choosing the other influence effect means the OL has to win in 5 rounds or he auto-loses.

Yes, but heroes can effectively block the path for the civilians (alone or with familiars), holding them long enough to kill the changelings (which you cannot re spawn indefinitely).

On the other hand goblins can scamper through the heroes, making it fairly easy to take the shot at civilians.

Nevertheless, I see your point, knocking out one hero would remove the blockade easily.

In fairness, I haven't read the quest rules very closely (haven't played this quest) but does it say anywhere that the villager tokens block movement and/or LOS? If not, I'm not sure the heroes could create a blockade.

In any case, when faced with this decision, I picked "Into the Dark". Almost won it.

Could someone please answer to next question for Widespread Panic Encounter 2 - if Vera is corrupted, can wounded citizens move through heroes?

Wounded citizens may move through monsters and heroes. Although monsters may attack villager tokens as if they were figures, they are not in a general sense.

Thanks for prompt answer.
