This is the new ship that premiered with tonight's episode.

What do you make of it? I think it looks pretty neat.

Hope to see it in X-Wing sometime soon. :D

I hope that they include the new model in the upcoming and much talked about/debated Tie Advance fix. Make a title for the Tie Advance, something like, early prototype and make it a negative points card to represent this version of the Tie Advanced. Also include the inquisitor and that Baron guy they mentioned in the episode as new pilots. Would be great.

This is of course in addition to the currently planned Tie Advance fix, not in any way, shape, or form, instead of!! I want a viable Maarek, darn it!!

I really liked the design and seeing it in action. Inquisitor's helmet was also super cool.

Seriously I need to see more of this thing in action and I want it in XWMG really badly.

I agree 100%. I also feel that it makes perfect sence if you are trying to think of a early version of Vader's ship, that itself, would be a upgraded version of a normal tie. And the folded wing design harkens back to the earlier Imperial usage of the V wing(folds to land/save space on a carrier) and would make designers think, "That folded wing design works good, lets incorporate that into future Tie designs" Perfect design, I feel.

Precisely. But because of its expense and overall value it just never got fielded as widely as the TIE fighter. Undeniably, the TIE Starfighter is a far better ship! In fact, a hyperdrive-less version WOULD be better! But, perhaps it's harder to repair and STILL costs more than a TIE fighter.

that space saving, though...

Exactly. Maybe the Tie Advanced should not get a fix. It clearly is not as good as regular Ties! ;)

What if we just replaced every TIE fighter in the imperial navy with this model?

Something else that was revealed in part 2 (up at Watch Disney XD right now) is the Inquisitor's TIE advanced has a missile tube. Also the TIE pilot they introduced when unveiling the new TIE at the parade, Baron Valen Rudor, is the same one in both of the short films "Entanglements" and "Property Of Ezra Bridger" and the episode "Fighter Flight". Something different is the Baron was sporting the Bloodstripes on his flightsuit and helmet in the new episode.

So he's gotten even better since then, and beforehand might have been a nooblet. Interesting.

As a former member of the US Navy, I believe that the term for a rookie pilot is a nugget, not a nooblet. :D

This is a good thing(him getting better) because I was not impressed with him in the property of Ezra Bridger story. Kinda a loser. I hope he got/gets(if he lives long enough - I haven't seen part 2 yet) a lot better and we get him with the Tie fighter/Tie advance prototype we get with the Gonzati!

Well yes, but Nooblet is funny. :P

That makes two of us, I was like... "This guy is a BARON? Bah."

Also, not to be a dirknozzle but why not bring the topic over here?

That's why I made that topic after all.

Err, is it ever referred to as an advanced? Because other than curved wings it looks nothing like one. It's hard to say that this is a prototype for a prototype that won't be developed for 5 or so years.

I would think it would be much more likely as a TIE mod/title than a Advanced variant.

Minister Maketh Tua introduced it as a TIE Advanced Prototype in the parade scene.

Maketh Tua

Tavion Axmis, you mean?

Yes, it is. And as a matter of fact, it DOES look like a TIE Advanced. Look at the connectors to the panels. They're thicker and broader than the TIE ones, but match the TIE Adv. X1's 1:1.

Heheheheheh.

I can only think of one thing:

Rebels' Ties are so adorably stubby

Did not see the episode, can never remember when it's on. Don't like this Advanced. The slight curve to the wing doesn't fit in with any other TIE that I can think of. Folding wings don't seem to have a reason to me. Do them fold when jumping into hyperspace or something?

I can see folding for storage just like the wings on Aircraft carrier jets. but i too don't like the Curved look. besides non curved wings would fold just as easily... AND theoretically take up less space!!

Might be to take up less room in a carrier (as with most real world folding wing aircraft) and in the case of a TIE like this, if it could land folded you could get in and out easier as you'd just need hand/foot holds on the side.

As it is if you dont land in a docking claw its a long jump out of that cockpit :)

Does this mean we get to see Hot Dog soon!?

Curved wings look wrong on a tie, and only having the solar panels on the inside will severely restrict weapon charge times.

If the wings fold for storage aboard a SD or carrier of some sort, they need a new way to land them that would be, as far as I know with limited knowledge of EU scource material, unique to them. Can't just put them on the same rack as other TIEs. They may have some sort of landing gear but with the wings folded under, that seems unlikely. A hanger would have to be dedicated just for these TIE Advances. That doesn't seem practical to me nor sound like something the Empire would find eficent.

TIE Bombers have the same issue but there'd be a ton more of then in service compared to the Advanced so there'd already be a storage rack/landing system devised for them. If the wings didn't fold, it would probably be just like Bombers for storage, just slightly modified. Even the Defender would be easier to store when you consider the wing roots are similar to basic TIEs, just set at an angle so to rack to hold them could just be a modified TIE rack(which may be modded again a bit to fit Phantoms).
