Prophet's "Focused Insights" and KO'ed Heroes

By chasewystone, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I'm fully aware that the Prophet cannot give the Insight token to a defeated Hero, but can he give his token to a player that is adjacent to a Hero token (aka - a knocked out Hero), and then have Focused Insights pick up the knocked out Hero?

Focused Insights

You gain +2 Health.

When a hero gains the insight token, each hero adjacent to that hero recovers 1 wound and 1 fatigue.

My intuition says that yes, it would heal a knocked out Hero, thereby granting them a full turn (albeit with just 1 HP), but I wanted to be sure.

Absolutely yes. It's a healing ability, therefore for the purposes of that ability, the hero token is treated like a hero.

Agreed.

This and other abilities like it can be a royal pain in the ass for us OLs that were fortunate enough to knock out a hero to begin with ... you are hoping that it limits their actions, and then some **** healer comes along with a trick up their sleeves ...

Are hero tokens treated the same as hero figures? Is there a rule that says hero tokens are treated as heroes in regards to healing?

Hero tokens are not treated the same as hero figures in most cases. They do not block movement, nor do they block LOS.

As for hero tokens being healed (allowing the hero back on the board without having another hero perform a revive):

Base Rules, Page 17:

A knocked out hero may still recover damage from other heroes through
the use of skills, potions, and being revived (see “Revive a Hero” on page
10). If a knocked out hero recovers at least one damage, he immediately
replaces his hero token with his figure and may perform actions as normal
on his next turn.
So hero's that have skills, certain abilities, etc. can provide health (damage) back to a knocked out hero, without actually having to perform a Revive Action.

Spot on. In case you need more convincing, read the box in the top right of page 15, "knocked out heroes." That box clarifies that most abilities can't target hero tokens, but healing abilities can, even if another figure is standing on top of that hero token.

Agreed.

There is a slight bonus I found to this being done, though. While knocking out the Hero and watching them get up without an action being used was annoying, they only came back with 1 HP. At most, with the Prophet's ability to transfer the Insight token to them after standing up, they'll have 3 HP. He kept going down every turn I was able to attack him, and was just there for me to farm OL cards.

Agreed.

I agree. It can provide the OL benefits. What has happened to me, unfortunately at inopportune moments, is that a Hero gets to stand up without using an action, and the fact that that Hero (as well as the rest) go both actions, meant the heroes won the encounter/quest. Can be frustrating. But a fair balance.

I recently just started another Labyrinth of Ruin campaign. I was able to stand up courtesy of the Bard's "Song of Mending." He was able to use both actions to kill a master goblin, and after I stood up I defeated both witchers, winning the quest. It's a question of which is more valuable to the heroes at that moment- keeping cards out of the OL's hands, or performing actions- often this answer differs between encounter 1 and 2 of a quest.
