So far all the ships we have seen have been taken from other starwars games and books, I wonder what the x-wing fans would think if ffg made up their own new ships unique to this game. I can only really think of a dozon or so more ships id like to see but what happens when this game grows too big?
New ship designs
I'd love to see them design their own Imperial huge. I think they have the skill, and I think it's a good opportunity.
I don't particularly care much for epic, so I won't be too upset if we don't see huge Imp ships. Armada is coming, and that'll be good enough for those capital ship fights. Looks neat. Expensive, but neat.
FFG will not design their own huge ships. Or small ships even. They stick to things that actually exist (aside from the Phantom pilots, simply because there weren't any known pilots in the EU...they'd never been given names...even then, that's a pilot as opposed to an entire ship)
Hypothetically, If they were to break from the EU ships and produce their own designs for this game as many computer games have done in the past would this be a good or bad thing? Would you buy it anyway? Or would you think that it was the point where this game gets far to bloated for its own good?
I can't imagine them running out of existing designs to use. Just the movies have yet to be plumbed (2/2/2/0 Vulture Droid Swarm anyone?) to say nothing of all the other stuff from the gazillion video games out there. Once you get to the EU it gets absolutely ridiculous. I predict the next Faction will show up around the time The Force Awakens shows up in theaters.
There's more than enough existing ships for them to use. They don't need to invent more. That's how we ended up with the TIE oppressor.

Could you list the dozen?
Its also how we ended up with alot of the other ships like the defender, decimator and yt-2400. Sure there's alot of eu ships but how many would you really want to go out and buy?
A lot actually. I'm hoping for:
Tie Avenger
Sentinel Assault Shuttle
Star Wing Assault Gunship
Tie Aggressor
Tie Drone
Cloakshape Ships
Skipray Blast Boats
Action VI transport
YT-2000
XJ-wing
A-9 Interceptor
Delta Escort Shuttle
V-Wing
All of this I would prefer to buy over a new creation.

off the top of my head in no particular order.
r-45 Starchaser, (Just like the look of the ship)
Personal Luxury Yacht 3000, (Who wouldnt want to command their fleets from their own personal hot tub?)
yt-2000, (Going for the Yt hat trick)
xg-1 assaut boat, (more boom)
Missile boat, (see above)
Cloakshape fighter, (this is a classic that i loved to shoot down more then fly)
Razor-class starfighter, (looks awsome)
GAT-12 Skipray Blastboat, (is awsome)
T-wing, (gotta fit a wing in the list somewhere)
"Kihraxz" Assault Fighter / Vaksai Starfighter, (I like the design Vaksai was a fun ship to fly)
Rihkxyrk Attack ship, (looks sleek and might make for a good bomber for scum)
Dunelizard, (Gotta love the name)
There's pobbly a few more
I think they're nearing the end of new models, before they'd be getting too strange. There are a number of likely ships to fill up the scum faction, and a handful of potentials for imperial/rebel, but I think the long term future will be in repaints and new pilots like the aces packs.
I even think it could be cool to have alternate models for current ships, like closed-foil B-wings or X-wings, or battle damaged TIEs. Probably won't happen, but whatever.
I'm fine with them inventing new pilots where needed though. That leaves them plenty of design space without inventing new ships.
Repaints and alternative models are cool idea's, there are also the new movie's ships wich may get a strong demand as well as any spin off ships the great mouse eared overlord might produce. Maybe two or three years worth of ship designs. But the star wars universe only has so many fighter scale ships in it. I supose as a buyer of tiney pastic starships if i were to trust a company to produce new star wars style ships ffg would be up there on that list.
After getting the Z-95 and Corran Horn I'm satisfied for fluff(even if Corran should have been in an X-wing). As far as ships I'd like to see them produce in the future I think the Lady Luck for the S&V would be really cool.
Yeah and paint it gold like some Kessel spice lord.
Their licence will probably prevent them making anything up anyway.
Licencsing agreements tend to be *very* tight as as, say Disney, you dont want to give up too much of your IP within one licence.
If anything you're going to see ships from 'Rebels' i reckon before anything obscure from a comic or RPG book.
I think rebels will be the source of new ships and pilots and then when thats run its course the new film.
I'm basing this on the fact that Lego are making 'rebels' ships at the moment an they are not making very much (if anything up) while being under licence.
Possibly, though the agreements for lego and ffg could be quite different.
Anything designed by ffg would still need the okay from Disney, I'd be okay with them making something new but it would probably involved jumping through alot of hoops.

Im sure they are very different in that lego make prequel era stuff but i'd also put money on them being told to make stuff for rebels leading up to the new film.
Creating new stuff changes your IP, you've also then got to decide who 'owns' the new stuff, disney/lfl or FFG. Could be a problem if FFG created something very popular, 'own' it then lose the licence further down the line
Given that all of disneys other licensing seems to be going down the rebels route at the moment i would not be too surprised if xwing follows on
Fantasy Flight has already, for the Role playing line, created one or two brand new vessels.

Please. I'm pretty certain that LFL's licenses are iron clad. You make something new, LFL owns it. Zahn gets zilch, not even credit, whenever Thrawn or Mara is used. I mean, FFG just has to go through LFL for the artwork they've reused, not the original artist or publisher. The only thing FFG can have a right to is the gameplay mechanics.
As for them using their original ships, you never know. Some of their RPG characters are beginning to make their way into the LCG. So, I wouldn't be surprised, though they are not at the point where they need to yet.
In the back of my head, I have this hankering for another ship with 2 arcs. They would be side arcs, extending sideways from the base (perpendicular like to the right and left ege) and then using the exterior lines of the current arc as the front most line of their arcs. So each arc would be about 45 degrees. Maybe 3 attack, and if you can get a ship lined up in both arcs, you'd get 5 attack. It would be very anti-large ship.
Yep but your speculation, is , like mine just that. Speculation.
But one thing i can be sure of being involved with IP license granting in the past is that they will have given the bare minimum away for as much money as possible ![]()
I'd rather see EU ships than new ships.
In no particular order:
XJ-Wing
Tie Clawcraft
Skipray Blastboat
Bes'uliik
Pursuer Enforcer Ship
Tie Avenger
YT-2000
V-wing
Dunelizard
And of course the Tie Starcruiser!! ![]()
The whole reason for Scum is because of the collosal number of additional models it gives them. Scum is a goldmine, plus Alex Davy all but confirmed they're doing a lot of the ESB bounty hunters.
GIVE ME MY SENTINEL-CLASS SHUTTLE FFG!!!
please?
