Questions about blanking the text box

By fabest, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi,

2 questions:

- If an attachment gives a keyword to a character, is that keyword blanked if the character's text box is blanked? So the point is does the keyword belong to the text box of the character or to the text box of the attachment?

- What happens if the text box of a card like "Winter Reserves" is blanked? Does it lose the "deadly" keyword? Has this character a text box?

Thanks for your answers guys!

Blanking a text box only takes out what is printed on the card. So if a character has gained Stealth, Renown, or even outright text (e.g., "attached character gains: 'Challenges: kneel to draw a card'"), that stuff still applies. Blanking effects only remove the printed text box.

Okay, this is tricky, so bear with me. Let's say you have an event card that says "Challenges: If it is Winter and you have lost a challenge this phase, pay 1 gold to put the top card of your discard pile into play, face-down, as an Army character with a <mil>, <int> and <pow> icon and Deadly."

Now, let's say you trigger that and put the face-down card into play as a character. The event creates a "token" character, then leaves play entirely, right? So what happens to the token character now that the event that created it is no longer active? Does it lose its icons? Its traits and keywords? Is it discarded entirely? No. In this example, it is pretty easy to see that the event creates the token character and, once triggered, has nothing further to do with the "token" or maintaining its stats. And what if you blank these token characters? Following the answer above, nothing happens because there is nothing in the character's printed text box to blank (it doesn't even have one).

Winter Reserves (or any of the Reinforcement events) are the same way. The only difference is that instead of creating a token character out of the top card of the discard pile, the events create token characters out of themselves. Once triggered, you don't need the event text to remain active in order for the token character to keep its stats, etc. If you were to blank the printed text of Winter Reserves, you are only blanking the text that created the token - which isn't doing anything at this point. So blanking Winter Reserves has no effect on the card.

Thank you Ktom, we really didn't know how to cope with Winter reserves and blanking.

Is deadly or stealth part of the text box? I guess yes, but they are not considered character abilities in the case of "Immune to character abilities"?

This totally confuses me.

Yes they are in the text box but they are not abilities but keywords.

It is nowhere said that everything in the text box are abilities. There are keywords, gold/initiative modifiers, traits…

Ah cool.
