Maarek-focused list

Lately I've been trying to work in my head how to make Maarek more viable, hopefully triggering his ability more than usual. I wound up with this potentially wonky list that's heavy on ordnance and possibly a lot of fun. Would appreciate feedback :)

What's Maarek doing for you in that list that makes him worth taking over Jonus? I don't aee anything in the list that would cause Maarek's ability to trigger any more easily.

You can have

MArek Steele with MArksmanship and proton rockets

Colonel Jendon with st-321, weapon engineer

Howlrunner with determination

Tie Bomber

In my opinion, Marek has a good ability but on a ship with very little offensive capabilities.

marksmanship and prockets only works if you have experimental interface on him

Just forget about Maarek until FFG came up with a fix.

Soontir + PTL + TC is so much better and even cheaper then a 'Maarek that could work' for 36 - 37 points.

I hope for a system upgrade slot with a discount on system upgrades (or a system upgrade for free).

This would levy the Advanced maybe even into competivity regions and Maarek would be useful at last.

Marek with Marksmanship might be the best way to go but what you really want is to find ways to give Marrek more dice rolls. Cluster missiles might be the way to do that and add EI to get a TL marksmanship action. Problem is that it also gets to be expensive on the point cost.

Also the upgrades seem to be an issue you can only give a single EPT and a missile with a modification. When trying to tool up Maleek to make the best use of his ability the slots fill up fast. But here is a list that focuses on flipping damage face up.

  • Maarak Stele + Marksmanship
  • Rexlar Brath
  • Captain Yorr + Fleet Officer + Mercenary Copilot + Engine Upgrade.

I Guess I could take out the tooled shuttle and put in a proton bomb, but the fleet officer is great for giving focus to Brath so that he can spend it to flip cards up.

I wouldn't put any action upgrades on Rexlar because you need to spend focus for his ability and as for marksmanship it is a little redundant because you will end up flipping cards over anyways. The fleet officer + focus action will do way better. Captain Yorr can also take stress away from Marrak so he can do the marksmanship action if needed.

Maarek uses up about 1/3 of the squad points and he needs another 1/3 as support to 'make him work'.

I tried Predator on him, so together with focus he has a good chance to score 2 hits for 30 points.

But then you could just use naked Vader for 1 points less, which is the better choice.

2 Blackies + Predator = 34 points.

Much, much better then Maarek, because of 2 attacks with a good chance of 2 hits each.

Maybe those Advanced would be properly fixed if they got the opportunity to attack twice every round.

Using the missile upgrade slot.

So like:

Enhanced Laser Banks

Tie Advanced only

Missile Slot

0 points

Attack [Target Lock]: Spend your Target Lock to perform this attack twice. Attack value: 2. Range: 2-3.

So the Advanced had an very unique ability. And Maarek had better chances to score a crit (he would still need support, though)

The end of the story is: Fix the Advanced and maybe Maarek is fixed as well.

While I don't know how much fun it would be to play this list ^^

Maarek and the Dark Lord attack from front while the Baron flanks.

I can understand wanting the star of tie fighter in your games but anything you do to make him viable also makes him expensive and sadly he won't make his points back.

They should of held back and put him in the avenger or defender, the advanced was not his signature ship.

Maybe FFG's 'fix' for the advanced should be an upgrade to the TIE avenger?

No.

Do people not realize that Marksmanship isn't literally a super focus?

It doesn't let you fire proton rockets.

And even if you EI or Fleet Officer, that's terrible synergy. You're using two upgrades to do a slightly better job than one action. You'd do better just running PtL and TL+Focus the rockets.

Marksmanship and cluster missiles works a lot better imo.
