Oicunn Shenanigans

By Deadshane, in X-Wing

so according to that VID the decimator should have the ability to use droids.. thinking R2D2.. lol

Its clearly a crew slot droid, not an astromech socket though.

So is the 'cheap' and cheerful Vindicator the way to go? Every build i try and come up with ends up at a beefy 60 points etc.

Do you mean Decimator?

My preferred build comes in at 63 points.

I dunno why i keep putting Vindicator. Been playing too much 40k lol.

And yeah, my build is about 60 points for Oicunn or Kenkirk. Usually have it in a 2 ship build, paired with Echo or Rexler.

My Oicunn build i like to call Hammer and Sickle

Oicunn - Intimidation, Jerjerrod, Mara Jade, Ysanne, Ion Torpedoes, Anti Pursuit Lasers

Echo - Recon Specialist, FCS, Vet Instinct, Advanced Cloak

Admittedly its a 1 dimensional list. Oicunn charges ahead, Ions an enemy formation to set up the initial Ram then ploughs into the middle of it. Anything he hits gets damaged, anything hits him CAN get damaged and anything touching him is fair game for Echo to finish off and anything else close will be stressed next round.

Jerjerrod and Ysanne are purely to stop him being nuked down in that initial charge though im open to ideas. I realise against smaller, harder to chase lists this build might struggle.

Sorry but so far the big O isn't pulling his weight. Sure it's fun to play but he shoots so low in the pilot order you could potentially only shoot once or twice before death.

But isn't that good enough? "Big O" is really fun to play with! Sometimes you don't have to play competitively. If your opponent is playing with an experimental list, a competitive list for the first time or they just have a fluffy or goofy list why not pull out Oicunn and smash a few ships?

dont let the swarm get guns on you. learn to place asteroids in a way that you can actually move through them with small ships.

For high PS, you can try using Isard, PTL and EU to Boost after combat. This is like PS12 movement

that is an excellent point, never thought of it before,

Lol, sorry. true that.

Gunner and Predator help take down Ties very fast.

So does a Doomshuttle in tow.

Basically, the build Paul did in that video is not afraid of swarms that much and also has decent damage output versus other things.

If you want his navigation through the center of the asteroids it shows that he completely understands exactly how the turn and slight turn maneuvers are spaced so that he can fit his large ships through the tight field.

I think I'm an okay large ship pilot, but the exact placements at the ends of larger turns and slights is hard for me. Going through there like that for me would have been brazenly bold.

Mara Jade is also good 3 point anti-swarm stuff.

that all then means you can be more map active and proactive about your asteroid placement to break up area where a swarm could engage your decimator.

lasttly, of course, if you build with decimator and phantom, you should have a relatively easy game.
